This 14.4 volt drill for $10 is an incredible deal. I needed a drill for around my house, nothing crazy, and I was suprised when I got it. Looks pretty cool, has a lot of power, feels great in my hand and is lighter then the ones I checked out at Home Depot(also a lot less expensive). As for the forward/reverse switch, mine works great. I have used this drill to drive screws and to drill holes into wood and metal in my shop. The clutch feature is really cool and lets you drive screws like you are a professional. This drill is not variable speed but with the clutch and a little pumping of the trigger it performs as good as any other drill I have owned and only costs $10. In fact, it has a ton of torque for any drill under $50. I just ordered 2 more to give as Xmas presents. Only came with two bits so I had to buy a set of extra bits to go with it or else I would have given it a 5. Good drill for me at a great price.
What do you expect for $10??

Just received this drill. For $10 it's an incredible value. It is a single speed drill which means that when you pull the trigger it immediately goes to its 1 speed but this does not impact the use of the drill that much. If you want to drill or drive screws at a slower speed you just need to pump the trigger.
br /
br /For drilling, single speed is fine for most applications. For driving screws, you just use the torque adjustment which allows you to sink the screw to any depth you want. Its a well built drill for $10. Heck, lunch now-a-days cost you more then $10.
Not variable speed, so not ideal for household use

This drill is NOT variable speed, meaning once you hit the trigger, it spins at full speed with no modulation. Now before you immediately rate this review as "Not Helpful", please read on...
br /
br /The lack of variable speed makes it nearly impossible to drive screws carefully, as you can't control the spin. With any decent variable-speed drill, you can gently press on the trigger to get it to spin smoothly and slowly without risk of stripping threads.
br /
br /Here's an analogy: When you are driving and take off from a stop sign, you don't immediately floor it. Instead, you gradually apply the throttle and then increase it smoothly. The same concept applies to using a drill properly. Aside from not being able to screw stuff in easily, you also don't necessarily want to drill holes at full speed all the time too. If you watch professional contractors work, they always modulate the speed when first starting to help ensure a straight hole.
br /
br /I honestly tried this drill at home, and decided to return it right away. It was not worth $10 as it is essentially useless for me. I tried very carefully to drive a screw in, but the drill immediately goes to full speed, turning the screw about 5 or 6 revolutions, when I only needed it to turn a couple of times. It's too easy to strip threads/screws this way. You can find decent variable-speed Black Decker drills for $15-20 on sale. Other reviews argue about "what can you expect for $10", but I just want to strongly urge potential buyers to consider spending an extra $5-10 for a variable speed drill. I honestly find that this drill is not worth a single dollar as it makes it very difficult to get the job done "right".

I should have read the review a bit better. This drill is not variable speed. No big deal I guess. I'm keeping it for $15 bucks. Keep an eye on it. It seems to go from $15 to $20 pretty regularly.

I used the drill to insall a 6' vertical blind valance with ease.
br /It works specially well when the screws into the dry-wall are not over-torqued: the drill skids at the second setting which is just right for me.
br /
br /Compared to any corded drill, it is much more convenient and light.
br /
br /I got one for my friend and would get more just for the battery to spare.

br /What can you ask for a nice toy at $10.

I was a little hesitant when I read a couple of the reviews and considering the price I thought I was getting this wimpy, little drill that wouldn't be able to hold up. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. This drill is bigger, more solid and more powerful than my old drill (Black and Decker 12V) and I was perfectly happy with that one. The one thing that it doesn't have is the variable speed benefit...it just kicks right it - but good power. I noticed this being a bit of an issue when removing screws, no finesse, so you have to kind of tap the power button to initially turn the screw otherwise you can strip the head...but no big deal if you put some decent pressure on the screw while turning. The direction button (forward/reverse) is right by the power button for convenient use but it is plastic and seems a bit cheap but $10 for this drill is a very good buy in my opinion...and am confident this drill will last.

I bought 3 of these as gifts. Wish I would have bought one for myself. These are very nice tools for the money, and certainly do not reflect a $10 price tag. Great gift idea for friends who "have everything" and are hard to buy for. Everyone can use an extra cordless drill/screwdriver! No-frills packaging, but, ummmm, who really cares. Biggest "con"? Not American made.

purchasing a drill below $10, I just expect it in quality as something in the dollar store. But this is not the kind. First it is made in good material, and it does not present as something cheap in apperance, and feel good. second it has power as it is advertised, 14.4v, drilling wood with ease. Third, it can be used as screwdriver. I think the manufature also suppose it with screwdriver function, as it is coming with two screwdriver kit in the package. Just done some ikea works, it is great.
br /Though it does not have speed adjust, I can live with it as something $10.
br /Very satisfied with both drill and its price. I purchased the second one for backup, as I found that battery alone will cost me more than $10.
br /if you just do some simple works, I think this is a great tool.

I've got exactly the same mode in local Home depot on some promotional days for $10, actually bought two of them - it was cheaper then get an extra battery. I was really surprised by decent quality and good operation. Sure, it is single-speed, but torque adjustment is adequate, and since it has gears inside - it has a lot of torque with relativelly slow RPMS. Bits are total trash, but product itself is good.

If you are looking for a work tool, you should probably spend a little more and get a nice brand name drill. If you just need something for around the house, this works great. So far no problems with it, has enough power to do everyday home tasks, and it's confortable to hold and to use.

I've been doing some work on my house and needed to pick up a new drill. I've got wrist issues, so it really needed to be lightweight and easy to handle. This drill is wonderful! It fits my hand well, doesn't drag from weight at the bottom, and for the price you really can't beat it. I'm very pleased with the product.

This drill is easy to drive screws with. That's what the clutch is for. Just set the clutch from 1 to 8 (1 for light driving and 8 for heavy driving) and let the drill do the rest. The clutch will ratchet out which disenguages it, not allowing the drill to drive the screw any further. The clutch is actually a feature you see on most professional cordless drills. For $20 this is a great drill. It also has a lot of torque which makes drilling into metal and wet wood easier.

I bought this drill as a backup toolkit drill. It has become my primary drill however. For the price, it's unbeatable; almost too good to be true. However, if I had to select a criticism, there would be two: 1) the two bits that come with it are no good 2) the low end torque adjustment is too strong. You have to use caution when performing low torque drilling, as the lowest setting is not very low.

Perfect timing: I just used the DriveMaster 14.4V Cordless Drill for the first time. I'm not exactly your handyman type, but I like to do some SMALL projects once in a while.
br /I used the new drill for drilling guide holes, a 1 inch hole in thin plywood, screwd and unscrewd about 20 sheet metal screws. The little guy did all of the tasks well and without any complaints. For 20 bucks...I'm very happy.
br /This unit replaced a super-duper Craftsman unit that I got as a present 3-4 yrs ago. The batteries died and they wanted $80 for a replacement battery! I can afford to buy FOUR DriveMaster 14.4V Cordless Drill for that money!
br /Overall: Excellent value for the money...and it works great!

First, and most important this is not a variable speed drill, it is either on at full speed or off which makes it useless for 99% of applications. It's basically a cheap no-name brand that caters to someone strictly looking at the price. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $25 - $35 and buy a low-end model from a trusted manufacturer.

I bought this drill just for fun, and I might even use it! This drill is moderately powerful, and has average build quality, but for the price of ten dollars, you won't find much better. The clutch is a nice feature, and the switching mechanism from driving in and out works smoothly. The drill feels comfortable in my hand (I have a pretty big hand), and the drill does balance on its base when the battery is attached. On a side note, the battery charger is ridiculously flimsy, but it works.

His name brand drill has been left in the dust by my awesome machine! It's powerful, holds a charge for a long time and is easy to use. This drill will get the job done but I would not recommend it if it you plan to use it heavily. The weight and size is OK but it doesn't seem to be balanced well. The variable speed range on the trigger button is not as smooth and consisitent as it should be. The forward/reverse button is just out of position and hard to press so you need to use your other hand to switch directions. Other than that, it works great.

Please realize it's not variable speed. My mistake for not reading the info more carefully but you can not effectively use it for screws unless it's variable speed.
Other than that, it's reasonably well built for $15.

This drill is good if you only want to drill holes. Not really useful for driving screws as there really isn't a "torque" setting. The site describes this as having 9 torque settings, but this is not true. It has one speed, and that's it. I really couldn't tell how long the battery will last before re-charging since I won't use this to drive screws. You are more likely to strip the screw head and better off using a manual screwdriver. I'm embarrassed to say I bought many of these to give away but now I wouldn't. Only because of the torque setting.
