Lighter in weight but has the "chops" of the bigger 14.4v's

Just got it a few days ago so as to give myself a lighter and more compact drill/driver for everyday use. I've already noticed that I have to remind myself to switch down from the higher RPM "drilling" setting when driving screws so that I get better control as the screw is entering the wood. It's fast and strong. It definitely has the torque to get the job done with only one hand but it accomplishes this without a lot of the painful wrist twists and occasional head-klonking from the earlier DeWalt 14.4v units. AS an example, I drilled three (3) 1/2" holes with a 16" speedbore paddle bit straight through well-aged 4" thick roof beams and a 3" deep 3/16" hole in dense poured slab concrete with absolutely no hesitation or difficulty. Along with that, a bunch of 3 1/2" screws. The drill/driver has good heft and yet is markedly lighter and more compact than my venerable 14.4v DW954 workhorse plus it fits the hand well and offers excellent balance. Since I already have DeWalt tools that use 7.2v, 14.4v and 18v batteries, the addition of 12v batteries doesn't phase me in the least since one model DeWalt charger will handle ALL of them. The ratcheting chuck is truly a blessing and holds round bits very well, especially since I had purchased, returned and reviewed DeWalt's DW926 9.6v model earlier on mainly because the bits slipped right out of that model's chuck regardless of how well I tightened the chuck. All-in-all, I'd have to say that this model from DeWalt is an excellent mid-range drill/driver with good speed and high torque for everyday professional use. Now, if you drive several hundred screws a day into dense wood decking, you might want something more substantial with larger batteries and greater torque. But for me, a professional handyman who encounters a very wide array of jobs with different requirements across different materials, the lighter weight and smaller size is a very big advantage -- all without sacrificing drilling and driving power.

I bought this drill to replace my old Craftsman 14.4 volt and I was very surprised at how much power this 12 volt drill has. This drill is also light and compact and very easy to use for long periods. The feel in the hand is very comfortable as the drill is very balanced and lighter than the larger 14.4 & 18 volt drills. I also like the charger which tells you when the battery pack is up to full power which my craftman charger didn't have. It also takes only 1 hr to charge vs. the 5 hours that my old drill would take. I would definately recommend this drill for anyone who does serious work around the house.

I have the earlier version of this drill and when the batteries went kaput, I found I could buy a new drill with two batteries and a charger for about the same price of just replacing the batteries(what a gimmick!) for my old drill. This DC727KA is lighter than the old one, gets into tighter places and the chuck works great! I have a Grizzly drill that's similar, also 12V, but I've had trouble with the chuck staying tight ever since it was new. I guess that's the difference between paying $69 and $119. I've used the drill quite a bit for both screwing and drilling and it can't be beat. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. I just can't figure out a good use for the heavy duty plastic case it came in. What ever happened to the great metal ones?

When my wife asked me to replace old blinds with new wood blinds, I was scared. I am dumb at any type of house works. I used to hire contractors to do all our house work. So I bought this drill for the job because of its reputation. I used it to remove all old blinds, some of the screws were realy stuck, I could never remove them by hand if there was not this tool. During the work, I even dropped the drill from 8 feet ladder, I thought I broke it, but it kept working. Thanks to the drill I finished the job with no problem. It is powerfull tool, I tried to unscrew the DeWalt drilled screw by hand, it was hard.
br /One complaint, somebody here said it's light. Well after holding this tool for one hour, I felt it's kind heavy.
br /I also like the keyless chuck part, it's easy for me to switch between driller and screwdriver bit.

More expensive than most but worth it.

You all know that old adage of "getting what you pay for", I'd say it was probably said by someone dealing with cordless drills. I had to replace a trusted old Craftsman 9.6V that had the batteries finally give up the ghost. Faced with the prospect of just replacing the batteries I just looked at getting a new drill. I had a bunch of Home Depot gift cards laying about so I started pricing and reading reviews. I work in a General Contracting office and I put the question to all the Project Managers and subs "what brand of drill do you prefer?" The answer came back overwhelmingly DeWalt. I looked at the different models and prices and decided that the 12 volt was probably enough for me. The first order of business for the new drill was replacing my sectional garage door. I picked up a socket adapter and went to work. With a friends help I removed the old door and put up the new door in under an hour. I had to remove and put back nearly 100 screws and I had to drill seven new holes in the door frame for brackets and handles and such. It handled it all with out a hiccup.
br /I am greatly pleased with this drill and it's performance and quality. I'd recommend it to anyone.

When ordering, I was concerned that I was shortchanging myself by not getting the 14.4 or 18 volt. However, now that I have the drill, I am very pleased with the power/weight ratio. It was either this DeWalt or the Bosch 14.4 compact drill. The Bosch was sleeker and fit my hand better but the DeWalt's 350 torque vs 310 for the Bosch won out.
br /
br /The smart charger is absolutely great.
br /
br /I highly recommend this drill for light/moderate to occassionally heavy weekend project use.

Great value plus an extra battery!!!

Good drill and easy to handle. As it is 12V, it is lighter than the big 18 V brutes, yet has sufficient power for most tasks. Good balance and great chuck. I would buy again. I did not rate it at 5 stars as you can't buy it with the extended duty batteries [which last much longer].

I was looking for a cordless with more power than my old one. This one has plenty of power for the around the house jobs that I'll be using it for. It fits comfortably in my hand and is well balanced. I can even set it down on its battery pack area and it doesn't fall down. I would recommend it to any home owner.

GOOD TOOL - I USE MY TOOLS TO MAKE A LIVING
br /Adjustments are easy to make. The keyless chuck is better than the ones on my older driver/drills. Plenty of power ever with larger bits. A wrist breaker if you do not adjust it properly. This is my first battery powered drill that is also an inpact drill. I like this feature. A couple of weeks ago from under a house I punched a hole in a concrete block wall without a problem.

This is my third purchaase of this drill. The originals are used for a very light comercial application, they are used a lot, but on the lowest torque setting to drive screws.
br /
br /Honestly, for 'HEAVY DUTY DRILLING' do yourself a favor and buy a corded drill - a BD 'HOLEGUN' is still my favorite - that said this is still a VERY good heavy duty screwdriver / medium duty drill.
br /
br /I like them however this one was only bought because we need new batteries and the cost of two batteries is almost the same as the total kit - so I figgured why not get a "free" backup drill!
br /
br /This item lost a star because in my opinion the batteries have too short a usable lifetime, in spite of there being two included in the kit.
br /
br /I hope this helps somebody.

Amazon's alleged super savings price is only pennies below the price of your local hardware retailer. It's alleged list price of $150 is seldom actually paid for the 12v version of this product. I've used Dewalt now for over a decade and it is my favorite cordless drill (Makita is definitely more durable but far less pleasant to use on the site). I just purchased this very drill kit for $102 with shipping. Do some shopping, you'll beat this Amazon price with little effort.

Of all the drills out there this one is a steal at 119.00. Being a home owner most of my projects take 2 or 3 hours. This drill packs enough power and run time to do the job. Backed by the Dewalt name this drill is perfect, 1 hour charge time too.

Needed new 12v batteries for my 10 yr old DeWalt drill. Batteries alone cost approx $50 each. I was able to pick up this new drill with 2 batteries and shipping for $80. Now I have two drills I can use while working on home projects. Perfect. I do like the improvement to the keyless chuck. The new drill has slightly higher RPM. I also like the compact size over my old DeWalt. However, the CW/CCW toggle switch has been cheapened-up. You have to slide it fully one way and it has to sit flush to the body of the drill to engage it. Bad if you have larger fingers. Can't be the price for the week-ender DIY type of person.

I purchased the DeWalt DC727KA 12 Volt cordlesss drill for Landscape Designer friend. From time to time she has borrowed my 14.4 Volt cordless drill to use on specific work related installations. I had the occasion to visit a job site and noticed how my drill did not balance well in her hand. She is plenty strong - but the scale and fit of her hand to the drill was wrong.
br /
br /I searched for what I thought would be the right cordless drill for her hand and applications. After reading a number of favorable reviews about this product I was convinced that it was plenty powerfull enough.
br /
br /She has been using her DeWalt for more than a month. It fits her hand in away that makes it easier and safer to use than the drill she borrowed from me. Since I have received good service from other DeWalt tools, I expect that this one will also have a long and happy life.

DeWalt sets the standard for construction tools. This 12v has the power of other's 18v, yet it is very light and easy to use for hours. I've been drywalling ceilings and walls each Saturday since I bought this and am very pleased that it is such a workhorse while holding a lengthy charge. Tom V.

The 12 volt drill from Dewalt is the best! WE bought this as a replacement for one just like it. After 3 or 4 years of heavy duty use in the construction industry, the batteries needed replacing, and it was a better value to just buy a new one and have the old one on hand just in case. Love!

Bought this drill on sale at a large home improvement store for about the Amazon price. Nowadays everybody talks about the "voltage" implying more is always better. Whats next? 48 volts? Come on.
br /
br /I considered the 18 volt version but let common sense prevail and got the 12 volt unit. My objective was a good, solid, powerful drill for general usage around the house. I wanted something I could manipulate easily and which didn't have a humungous battery getting in the way. I can tell you this 12 volt drill is a beast. I'm a serious woodworker and home repair type of guy and this drill is perfect without the ridiculous size of the higher voltage types. Nice balance in your hand so you'll feel comfortable grabbing it for many jobs.
br /
br /The charger is fast and the batteries last a long time between charges.
br /Don't get sucked into the voltage hype. Buy this 12 volt unit without hesitation.

I love this cordless drill. It is well balanced and feels great in the hand. It will operate for quite a while witout needing to switch the battery. It has two speeds. The low speed is great for driving screws and the trigger gives great control over the speed of the screw so you can control the acceleration and the deceleration to smoothly drive a screw the exact depth desired. The high speed is good for drilling, though I do end up switching to corded drilled for anything large, extra hard, or for extended durations of drilling since I worry about over working or wearing out my favorite cordless drill. I like this drill so much that I bought a second one.

Are you looking for a drill for someone? Thinking 10 volt, 12 volt, 14 volt, etc? Well whatever you buy, make sure it's a DEWALT. These things rock. I have this 12 volt thing and it's my everyday drill: wood, metal, whatever. Sure a 10 volt cheapo drill would do the job, but DEWALT drills just function SO WELL plus they make that excellent full-stop noise when you release the trigger. It's like a drill from the future! Plus it's a cool yellow/black color, which is the greatest color combination for all manly electrical products. PS: use drill bits.
