I own numerous cordless drills and cordless screwdrivers. This one really fills the gap. Light weight and strong power, for its size. I do a lot of electrical work, which entails drywall repair amongst other things. It has enough power to drive drywall screws in, yet small enough to get into those small places. I wouldn't sheet rock a room but it's great for small jobs. Attaching cabinet hinges, electrical work and driving hex nuts, it works great in all applications. Really beats the pants off of the B&D 3 volt screw drivers. The clutch has excellent range. At the 1 setting you can drive screws into a switch face plate without breaking the plate. The higher numbers correspond almost exactly to the release pressure of my other DeWALT drills.
I knocked off one star due to the poor quick release design. By the way, it hasn't been fixed. When you push the sleeve back, towards the screw driver, it releases the bit. Like others have said, when you bump it or put it in your tool belt the bit can release. It hasn't been a huge problem, just an annoying issue. The problem is that there is a small spring that helps release the bit. So it shoots it across the room. It really doesn't make any sense, since their impact drivers have the release mechanism going in the opposite direction. That said, I would buy this again and recommend it to anyone. Hopefully, some day, DeWALT will act on these reviews. For the price this is a great deal. The batteries have long run times and the charger is the latest 3 mode version which allows you to leave the battery in the charger all the time without damaging the battery. In fact that is what they recommend, keep one in the charger at all times. It charges, conditions and then maintains a trickle charge after that. I wish that I would have purchase this item long ago. Have fun.
Update: I have now been using this tool for about 6 months. It still works flawlessly. I would like to add a note on the quick release. I think that DeWALT's thinking on the way the bit releases is for ease of use and quick action. Typically if you are using this tool, you will be changing from flat head to phillips again and again. By tapping the release the bit quickly pops out and to attach a new one you just shove it in. If, like on their impact driver, you had a locking mechanism it would be more difficult to release and install the bit. This is supposed to be for light duty work. This cordless screwdriver is now the first tool into my bag for any project. I can't imagine leaving home without it.
Chuck problem appears fixed by DeWalt

Bought mine here from Amazon.com about a month ago and have used and tested it with much satisfaction ever since. I reviewed all 57 reviews for this tool here before buying and I rely heavily on these reviews before buying. I was concerned about the shaft wobble and the easy releaseability of the bit when the chuck is bumped or put into a tool bucket. These were so well written up by earlier reviewers. I am pleased to say that it appears as if both situations have been resolved. The chuck release spring has been stiffened and the shaft turns true. Tested it with the collar pulled back and there is no wobble. A 6 inch bit spins true. And, the collar needs a firm pull back to release the bit now. The case has ample room for all sorts of accessories. The charger is very light to lug around. The tool brakes when you release the "trigger" which is undocumented and allows you to stop with one thread left connected on screws instead of coasting to a stop and the screw stopping where it may. The slider release to change from a straight to a pistol is spring loaded so you don't have to remember to make sure the tool is locked into its new position. It clicks into a locked positon when the tool arrives at the new configuration. The previous tool I purchased from Amazon using the reviews as decision making was for the Porter-Cable 548P Bayonet Saw.(...) I have been so thankful I did.

I bought this tool to do a specific job where I had to replace 1350 circuit breakers in industrial motor control centers. Each breaker had 11 screws to take out and replace. We would typcally replace 50 units or so a day. The screws were very long.I bought it as a timesaver expecting the tool to wear out by the time the job was finished of before. No way. This thing is still trucking after 2 years of very intense use. It performed excellently. The two batteries easily kept the tool powered for an entire day of work. It is tough, heavy enough to be stable yet light enough to wield all day. The action is smooth and the torque control is very consistent. The tool still looks almost and works just as smoothly as when I first took it out of the box.I highly recommend this tool, and Amazon has a terrific price on it. It is the same as the Home Depot sale price and less than anyplace else. Plus you can't beat Amazon service.
Strong little driver--well made, fantastic value.

Dewalt has really hit a home run on this cordless screwdriver. Like other reviewers, I've used my share of other brands cordless screwdrivers. There's no comparison; the others are like toys after you use this Dewalt. Boasting an unbelievable 80+ inch/pounds of torque, the Dewalt blows the competition away. The Black and Decker's produce under 30 inch/pounds and only the Makita produces over 30; the Panasonic slightly more (and it's even more money than the Dewalt!). Nobody is offering a driver that has the torque of the Dewalt. This driver can free you from taking a heavier drill to simply screw fasteners and the speed is truly controlable; the big trigger is easily feathered and very ergonomic.Pros: Extremely robust. Has an aluminum housing, high impact plastic handle and the fit and finish are genuinely quality all-the-way. 2 batteries are included; nice touch. Fantastic torque; you will honestly not believe what this screwdriver can set a screw in. I tried some 2 inch deck screws into pressure treated lumber and was amazed. The other manufacturer's drivers aren't even in the same league. Comes with a nice kit box; typical of almost all Dewalt tools. Cons: At least two reviewers mentioned the main shaft being 'wobbly'. When I first turned mine on, I thought I saw the same thing and was somewhat disheartened. But upon closer examination, I found the source of the problem. If you retract the locking collar that secures the bit, it exposes around 1/4 inch of the shaft. When pulled back this way and turned on, you can see it's NOT the shaft that's out of center; it's the collar. The shaft runs true. One prior reviewer stated he took his apart and found that the collar bushing had a burr on it. I'm not taking mine apart, but general examination of it, likely confirms that this is probably the case. Maybe on a Saturday when I have some extra time to burn, I will take mine apart and grind off this burr. It honestly doesn't affect anything, but it is why I'm only rating it 4 stars. A 'professional' grade tool should be perfect out of the box; just my .02 cents worth. I do feel that some others that may have just quickly looked at the collar alone spinning may have missed that the shaft is true, it simply looks off center because your eyes follow the collar, in it's normal locked state, it covers the shaft and, thus, makes it all appear to run out-of-true.Unbelievable tool for the money, still. Nobody, period, is producing a driver with this much torque (not a screwdriver, that is!). Supremely handy, it's a staple in my toolbelt now, replacing the heavier drills that simply aren't needed all the time. I wish Dewalt would check into the bushing 'burr', it would get 5 stars, hands down, if this wasn't an issue.

I reviewed this when I got it about two years ago. Having had this for some time now and using this all the time, here are my thoughts:I rated this 5 stars when I originially rated this. If I could I would rate this higher. This is still an awesome tool. The battery life is amazing. You can use this tool hard, drive lots of screws, drill (with the proper quick eject bits) and generally just have at it with this thing. I no longer reach first for screwdrivers, but I use this tool instead. With the 15 clutch settings, you don't strip screws, you don't break plastics, wood, you don't strip phillips head screws, you don't break screws - its incredible.I do alot of electrical work and I use this to trim out outlets and switches including installing the trim plates. Setting the clutch to '1' means that I won't break a single plate! However, when I set the clutch to 15, its basically hang on with both hands since this tool has all the torque you could want. To use it on 15 you need to hand on with both hands and lean into it as hard as you can - otherwise there is enough torque there for the tool to jump out of the screw. If you can hang on, it will drive that screw. I think that is an incredible range - delicate to heavy duty. While the tool allows usage in straight or pistol mode, I still use it in pistol mode 99% of the time. HOWEVER, when you need it in straight mode, it is absolutely indispensible. Just yesterday, I had to take a tough screw out of a floodlight fixture while on a 9' ladder reaching way over my head. I couldn't get a standard screwdriver in there - with hand attached. I couldn't get it in there in pistol mode. Set it straight, put in in there and out comes the screw. What a tool. For around the house, there is no peer. I would actually buy this as my first cordless drill for that application. With a heavy duty cordless around, (18V dewalt) and this tool there is nothing that you can't handle.I strongly reccommend this tool. Its my first choice for driving any screw - I choose this over the hand tools almost every time. If I was working a working electrician, i would use this tool for pretty much all my trimming needs. If I was any sort of installer, this would be the firsts tool that would reach for.
Heavy Duty

This unit defines "heavy duty" as far as cordless screwdrivers are concerned. Larger than your typical cordless screwdriver, it is also quite a bit more powerful. It comes with two 7.2 volt batteries, fast charger, two driving bits, and a sturdy carrying case. The unit is made of quality materials. All of the controls work smoothly and precisely. The battery packs that came with the kit are also made of sturdy plastic material. And the battery charger does indeed work as fast as advertised. I was able to charge a depleted 7.2 volt battery in an hour. In addition, this charger can also be used to charge the other battery packs from the same manufacturer, up to 14.4 volts. I have used this unit to drive wall screws into hardwood panelings, for the purpose of hanging picture frames. It handled such a light-duty application with ease. However, I did notice the same problem that a previous reviewer had mentioned: it is very easy to release the bit from the chuck. That happened to me during the above "project". I had to get down on the floor to look for the missing bit. However, I want to acknowledge that it is also quite possible that I just did not set the bit down as far as it could go into the chuck. In other words, I am not entirely sure whether the unit has a problem or the operator just did not get the bit into the chuck deep enough. The unit is large. Perhaps it is more than what you would want for a light-duty application, such as computer repair. Think carefully about how you will apply the tool. My suggestion is to visit your local home improvement store and inspect the unit first. You might be surprised to see that it is actually the same size as most cordless drills. And just as likely, you will also be impressed at what DeWalt included with the kit for the relatively low price of $99. Given what the other manufacturers are giving you, for the same price or more, this one is truly quite a "deal."Unlike most DeWalt equipment, this one is made in China. That does not affect the quality, design, or function of the tool. Which is what this review is all about.

I recently purchased this tool. It is higher priced than other models but I am convinced the extra money is well spent. The tool has good power and is comfortable to use. I used it for an electrical project, ran about 20 1-1/4 wood screws, and went around the house tightening every phillips screw I could find and the 1st battery was stilll going strong. This is a small and handy tool that everyone should have.

.... DeWalt has come up with another Winning Design! A little heavier than most others out there, but the power and control more than make up for it!! There is one problem however. Before buying this tool myself... I, like most of you reading these reviews, did research before purchasing. Almost everyone that reviewed this tool had great things to say, but the problem mentioned in many other reviews DOES EXIST!! I am talking about the "Off-Center collar/Bent Shaft" problem". I purchased the screwdriver at a local home improvement store, got it home and immediately tried it out. I noticed the entire collar including the bit was wobbling. I popped the bit out and noticed the locking clip inside the shaft was seriously off center. I brought the tool back and sat there while me and an employee opened every cordless screwdriver they had in stock (7 total). EVERY ONE had this problem!! Out of the seven, I did find one that the problem was so minor, I don't think it will cause any major problems. Why did I still purchase the screwdriver??? Because I have a lot of DeWalt tools and they run forever, and I also know that this is a fixable problem and some are a lot worse than others. If this proves to be a problem for me, I will get it serviced by DeWalt (Under Warranty of course!). I like this screwdriver for it's versatility, the solid made construction, and for it's power, but I DO think that DeWalt needs to fix this problem and step up the Quality Assurance!!!

I got this for xmas and have been using it daily since then. This is very handy tool. You'll very seldom pick up a hand screwdriver ever again--this is far more efficient. The tool is easy to use. The batteries hold a charge for quite some time. Basically I reach for this whenever I need to remove or insert a screw around the house or shop(except for driving screws into wood). The price is on the high end but I think it is worth it. Some of the "lower end" stick screwdrivers are much lighter in your hand, contain more plastic and short term replacement will be inevitable. Remember, you pay the most when you buy a low end product and eventually purchase the higher end anyway. My only complaint, relatively minor, is that the reverse switch is very close to the trigger and sometimes you can inadvertently reverse direction when you don't want to. DeWalt's engineers made a boo boo here.Otherwise, a tremendously useful tool.

After using this screwdriver for over a year now, I can agree with the other reviewers--that this is a great tool! I also thought that 7.2v would be wimpy, but it isn't! It beats using a drill to run the screws. Now I carry a cordless drill and this screwdriver in a bag to every task. Highly recommend!

I bought the DW920K-2 in mid October 2003 from Tool Crib. The unit I received works great. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I did not have any of the problems with an out of center shaft. It runs very well with no wobble what so ever, and is a joy to use. In fact I am totally impressed with the tool so far, and I use it a lot. I am a serious woodworker and home do-it-yourselfer, and over the past 10 years I have owned three different SKIL screwdrivers. The Dewalt is in an entirely different category than the SKIL's. It is powerful, much more so than the others. It is smooth, and with the variable speed drive it is very easy to control. The batteries last a good long while, and they re-charge in an hour or less. The extra weight and bulk of the screwdriver and battery have not been a problem for me. I really like the locking collar. I use a small drill chuck with a hex shaft that works really well with the DW920K. The drill chuck locks into the collar, and will not pull out as I retract a drill bit from the hole I just drilled. The price may seem high, compared to some of the other drivers, but the Dewalt is a real industrial grade tool, and it is worth every penny to me. The only down negative is with the forward/reverse switch. My fore finger keeps bumping the switch, not far enough to reverse the driver, but just far enough that it quits running until I push the switch back to the full forward position again. All said, I like this tool a lot, and I would buy it again.

I've owned this tool for a little over a year, and can no longer imagine life without it. I went through 3 of those 3.6 volt versa-whatevers in the same amount of time. The third one is sitting in a drawer with a fist full of batteries and the remains of the other two. I have not seen another cordless screwdriver on the market that even comes close to the combination of versatility, comfort, durability and run-time of this one. The term screwdriver seems so trivial in trying to describe it. Make sure that you have a decent set of quick change nut drivers to boost your productivity. And a set of quick change counter-sink drill bits aide in light cabinetry and woodworking chores. And three and six inch screwdriver bits for longer reach. Basically, if you can find anything that comes with a quick change shank, buy it and put it in the ample case. I have found that I have moved quite a few accessories from my DeWalt 14.4 drill case to my screwdriver case. This tool feels great in your hand, and is very comfortable in use. The angle of the head, when set in the angled position, is perfectly parallel with your forearm. This keeps your wrist straight, minimizing stress on those carpal tunnels. The forward/reverse switch is sort of annoying, as I will sometimes inadvertently change with the base of my index finger, which I tend to have pointing straight forward. If DeWalt would split the elongated trigger in half, and use the lower half for reverse, I just may have this tool surgically replace my right hand. The run-time of the batteries is astounding. Under normal daily use, and I do use it daily, the batteries have lasted a week or more. The only time that this tool "came up short", I should have been using my drill anyway. As far as durability, it's a DeWalt through and through. The gearbox and all of the working end are metal, the handle and trigger are extremely high impact plastic. Excellent clutching and superior variable speed trigger help substantially in preserving brass screw heads, and avoiding burying screws in your work, which the power of this tool will do if you are not careful. One last thought... invest a couple bucks in a belt hook, and you'll find it hard to put this screwdriver back in the case before the end of the day.

I love this tool. I use it heavily in my business (installing cabinets). In fact, I have two of them and the older one is over 2 years old. They're tough and powerful. I can drive 3" cabinet screws into studs with no problem. Of course, with a 7.2V battery, the charge doesn't last long if you're driving long screws into studs, but for lighter work the battery lasts most of the day for me.

Five years of daily handyguy work has proven the versatility and reliablity of this drill driver. I have added a multitude of accessories to my kit (yes, they all fit !). They include drills (including masonary), grinding bits, level, extra long bits, grinding bits, nut removers, screw extractors, etc. The batteries were reaching the end of their useful life but the drill was just fine. At Amazon's price, it was more cost effective for me to buy a new one rather than buying new batteries!

When this little brute was given to me for my B-Day I thought about returning it and using the credit for something else. I am quite happy that I didn't. This unit is paired perfectly with my 18 volt Bosch. The Bosch is heavy and packs a punch that is often overkill for certain projects. The DeWalt cordless fills the void and provides a tool that is maneuverable, light, and powerful enough for just about any project (within reason). The tool is solid and durable, the extra battery and charger are a blessing (uncommon with other cordless screwdrivers). The size and shape of the tools makes it easy to grip with one or two hands for stubborn fasteners. If you are tired of removing light switch face plates with a 7 pound (18 volt) monster, this is the tool for you.

I have been an electrical contractor for over 35 years. I have experimented with many powered screw drivers as they became available. This DeWalt 920K is quality built like their other cordless tools. What I don't like is that the bit holding mechanism most often spits out the bit when you try to push it into a ladder top tool holder hole or into your pouch with other tools. Very poor holder as compared to the Panasonic cordless impact driver that I always use just as frequently on installations. Also, the forward/reverse should be more accessible and easier to operate for one handed operation. A forward/reverse all in one rocker switch would be ideal, like the Black & Decker cheaper version with the LED light on it. The switch locking feature is nice for when tool is bunched in with other tools for transport. Of course the power of this DeWalt makes me want to use it instead of the B&D.

I purchased this tool largely because of the many positive reviews that have already posted on this site. This is a great tool that functions both as a heavy duty screwdriver and, with the addition of a keyless chuck (not included), as a light duty drill.
I have only had this tool for about a week but already find it to be the most frequently used tool in my box. So far I have used it to drill pilot holes and as a screw driver for hanging drapery rods, as a nut driver to fix broken appliances and as a screwdriver to secure hold down clamps in lots of electrical boxes.
If you are considering purchasing this tool you will not be disappointed. The quality is very high, typical of all Dewalt products. Contrary to some of the posts, I notice no problem with an off center chuck collar. I do not find the quick release chuck to be a problem. In fact I like it so I can quickly remove the keyless chuck and insert the screwdriver which allows me to quickly change from drill to screwdriver.
If there was one improvement I would like to see, it would be to have the head flex more to a ninety degree angle however, this is in no way a major drawback.
Again, this is one GREAT tool and is quicky becomming the little workhorse in my tool box.

Purchasers have different needs when they buy tools. I am a DIY'er and I wanted a portable, cordless, driver to replace one that would no longer hold a charge. My new driver would be used in my shop and around our house. It would do those things I would otherwise use a standard screwdriver for. I also wanted a ni-cad battery. At 7.2 v. this unit meets my needs. It is comfortable to use and it is conveniently stored in a hard case.
br /It is my understanding that this unit is being discontinued by DeWalt which may explain the reduced price, which fits in with my philosophy of paying only a reasonable price for tools that I would like to have but can get along without.

Upon the death of my Craftsman versapak (same thing as the Black & Decker)electric screwdriver, I was looking for something better. I already had a Dewalt 18v 3 speed hammer drill, which for some jobs was a little too heavy or bulky to do what I needed. So I opted for the Dewalt DW920 HD Cordless Scredriver. I have not been disappointed. This thing has tons more power than my Craftsman ever did, and is still light and small enough to get into tight spots. It surprised me at the torque it had to drive wood screws through plywood into 2x4's (and actually snapping the heads off several screws.) The hex lock system on it is great, as I can use a lot of the craftsman quick lock drill bits. I purchased a magnetic driver set for this screwdriver which come with different bits such as hex bits, star bits, square bits, etc. Another useful accessory for this driver is a 1/4" hex to socket adapter. I use this drill as a nut driver often, and its easy with the adapter.
The only, and I mean only, gripe I have with this screwdriver is the bit release collar. If you happen to bump it into something (such as missing a screw, sticking it into a ladder hole, etc. the bit will fall out. This isn't a big deal most of the time, but when you are up on a 7ft ladder, having to climb down to get your bit is aggravating.

I'm really surprised I haven't burnt this little driver up or fried the batteries. I use it for everything. I'm a big fan of the bits with the hex loc (whatever they're calling it) I have one of the big craftsman sets of drill bits and driver bits. I swear I didn't need to buy my 18V dewalt drill at all because I use the 7.2 for things I wouldn't have thought it could handle. I drove most of the screws in my deck with this thing. With the craftsman bit set, and the 7.2...I rarely need any other tools when I'm doing little jobs around the house. In fact...I use my dewalt 4pak combo so little, the batteries stopped working. (that's a whole different peev with DW). I cringed at the price of the 7.2, but I dont regret it. I only have three complaints. 1) I cant find a holster anywhere that will hold this thing securely. It flaps around or slides out of every holster I've tried. They should have included some kind of holder and even included the little asessory flip pouch I paid extra for. At $100, you'd think it would be a no brainer. 2) It is just a little heavy for a general purpose driver. I almost bought one of those little millwaulkee ones(2.4V I think), but the price wasn't much better, and it cant drill or do half what the dewalt can. With a bit in the dewalt, the sheer size and weight make it a bit clumsy when you have it on your hip (even more reason to include a special holster). 3) They should have included more adjustability in the pivot. I use it locked at the angle all the time, but sometimes I wish it would lock at degrees inbetween. It would be nice if it would bend a bit further also. (I'm sure 90degrees would be out of the question, but I'm no engineer). Okay...well I just thought of a 4th idea...They should make a small regular chuck that you could slip in there, just in case you need to use a bit without the hex-loc. All in all...this is one of my favorite tools in the garage.

Not as much speed as the drills, but it is still quick, with less weight. The two batteries and quick charger will keep you working. I'd recommend the folding bit case, a 2" magnetic bit holder, a 3" bit (or two), and a set of mini-sockets.

As a professional interior painting contractor, I have been using the Dewalt DW920 Screwdriver for about seven years now to remove/install door knobs, hinges, draperies, blinds, and cornice board mounting hardware when painting in my customers' homes. With the ability to adjust the driver in a straight upright position and attaching an extension, removing and installing those "L" shaped brackets used on those large cornice boards is reduced to a simple task. The variable speed, rugged, light weight and compact size are the winning combinations that separates this tool from the rest and has earned the title as "The best cordless screwdriver" on the market.

I've had this for about three years now and used it for just about everything from turning small screws into a delicate faceplate to driving 4 inch deck screws. It has great power for such a small and light tool, though it will sometimes get stuck when trying to drive the final few turns on a long (3-4 inch) screw. It will do a decent job drilling, but don't expect miracles in this department---also remember that you'll need to get special hex drive drill bits to fit in the holder of this tool or purchase an accessory chuck.
As others have noted, the tool is fairly compact, but could be more so. Newer tools, like the Bosch drivers are more compact, and I would take a good look at one of those before I bought this tool again.
Ultimately, this driver is a great companion to a larger drill/driver, but not a replacement. Strapped onto your tool belt with a "lugg" holder, though, this tool is super handy.

This tool is so light weight and functional! It has helped me out so much in building server racks and loading them up with equipment. Often I am holding heavy equipment over my head and then trying to screw it in. This screwdriver/drill is so light weight I don't get overwhelmed. Also it is much easier to pack and less weight added to my suitcase when flying. It still has some good torque and it can even get very tightly screwed screws out. Especially in tight or cramped places. It has a movable head unlike a normal drill. I can't say enough great things about this drill. The worst thing about it is I could only find it online to buy, no stores carried it, but thats it! THIS DRILL ROCKS!

comments about the quick release chuck...nope it is supposed to be that way for those one handed on a ladder under the sink bit changes. Concern about power or fit and finish...nope all are excellent. Kit is just right, 2 batterys, charger...and just enough power and finese'. So if I have one complaint its that it could be a bit smaller...just a hair to balance the tool a bit better. I only say this because with the tool in the locked open position it feels to long in the hand and can be more aqward then a regular drill/driver. But in the drill style grip position its just about right. So, if you plan on using this in the open position a lot...i would look at the panasonic unit, if you just would like a lighter drill style unit without giving up the power then this is you baby. Enjoy.

I bought this as I got tired of using my Mikita drill and switching out the bit to make it a screwdriver. This unit is well constructed and well balanced. The torque is unbelievable and the battery life is excellent. I charged it about 10 days ago after a job and went to use it and the power was still high. I did not rate it a 5 as I think that the force of spring that pops out the bit it to high and more than once this caused the bit to pop out of my hand. This is not a major pain given the frequency that I will use it but if I were use it daily it would be an issue.

My Milwaukee drill is incredibly powerful and was my favorite tool for a long time. While this is not as powerful as the corded milwaukee, I find myself reaching for it and leaving the MW in the tool box. It's powerful enough for 95% of my jobs and so much more convenient and compact. My new favorite tool for sure.

I had never owned a Dewalt tool before. But the Dewalt screwdriver was everthing I had hoped it would be. You could recognize "QUALITY" immediately. It was used from everything to
driving screws into wood paneling to driving bolts into concrete anchors. I like it better that the cordless drill (not a Dewalt) I used to use for the same tasks. Having had surgeries on both thumbs in the past year the comfort and ease of the Dewalt cordless screwdriver was appreciated.

I have owned/used this cordless screwdriver for several months now and one of the best units for it's price. It's strong enough to drive just about any kind of screw plus it can be used for drilling small holes. I especially like the fact that it comes with a case and two batteries (one to use, one to charge) and the charge time is fairly short (by the time I run out of juice with the first battery, the second is ready to go). The movable handle is also a huge plus as it allows for easier holding with increased torque.

An electrician doing some work at my house had this tool and recommended it, so I gave it to myself as a Christmas gift (who better). It is one tool I use all the time. It is extremely versatile as a screwdriver and makes a great drill for SMALL jobs (even though it is not designed as a drill). I love my BD Versapac screwdrivers, but this beats them by far. This was my first Dewalt tool and I was so happy with it I bought two more as gifts for my brother in law and a lifelong friend. Replacement batteries are a bit expensive, so when the time is right I will probably just buy a whole new set. I highly recommend this tool.

I'm a full time home inspector ( www.ableinspector.com )and I literally use this every day. I'm now online for a new battery as one is dead and the the other one is losing power, but this is after 6 years of continual daily use.
br /
br /It strains a bit, but can drive a 2.5" screw into wood, one battery charge lasts me 3 to 4 days of daily use.
br /
br /Oh - and in 6 years of daily use I have never once lost a bit due to the collar lock system. I'm not sure why others have problems, but I sure don't. Maybe they just need to learn to use the tool better??
br /
br /I knocked one star off because I feel the batteries could be slightly higher quality. they're not bad, but could be better.
br /
br /Overall, this is by far the best cordless screwdriver I've ever found. It is real heavy-duty tool for heavy duty use.

I have used this amazing little giant to install almost 1000 square feet of cedar decking and about half that of tile backer. It is indefatigable, and unlike its larger bretheren, it can be very accurately controlled. (No "over-driven" deck screws.) While decking, I never had to wait for a charged battery - one would lose power just as the other obtained full charge.
br /
br /And by dialing back the clutch, I have put this little demon to work on some very delicate items: Electrical outlet faceplates, computer components, etc.
br /
br /The only complaint is occasionally losing a bit due to the chuck being inadvertently activated by clothing or some other object. This is particularly annoying if you are up on a ladder, or if the bit rolls off the deck and into the river.

Although it doesn't seem like this tool would be more useful than a cordless drill, it really is. At only 7.2 volts, this screwdriver is geared to have lots of power; you can screw for hours on one charge. And a real plus is that these batteries are much less expensive than most cordless drill batteries. It also is comfortable to use, well-balanced, and typical DeWalt quality. No other brand of cordless screwdriver is comparable.

Made putting up furing strips quick and easy.

The 7.2 Volt DW920K was given to me as a gift and I have used and abused it for years now. It was a replacement for a Milwaukee cordless and there is absolutely no comparison. I can say without reservation that I use this one tool more than any other tool that I own, powered or not. If it died today I would buy another one tomorrow, it's been that good. If there is a down side, it's that I haven't been able to find replacement batteries locally. The original batteries are getting tired, they don't hold a charge anymore so it's time to replace them. I can find them online but I live in Alaska and vendors LOVE to see that as they can double and sometime triple shipping charges.

I had to get a new cordless screwdriver after the clutch on my hardly used Black and Decker gave out. I read several reviews of cordless screwdrivers and was going to buy the Bosch because of the small angled head until I read a number of negative reviews. The DeWalt is better, powerful, I love the locking keyless chuck and long battery life. My only complaint is that even when angled, it is hard to get into tight areas, which I why I was so interested in the Bosch. But certainly - no regrets. All of my DeWalt tools have gotten a lot of use and never let me down.

Doing home theater installs a small drill is a must for faceplates, screwing things in drywall etc..All my coworkers use this drill.
Today 3/12/07 I went out to buy one for myself,to no avail I couldnt find it locally.I settled for the Bosch comparable unit as there was nothing else available.
Charged it,drove some screws into a stud and packed it up to go back to the store. It does not compare to the Dewalt unit and is the more expensive unit. The power difference is like night and day,the Bosch is okay for work aroud the house, but not on the job site.
The only problem is as mentioned that the bit easily falls off the tool, but this drill is as good as it gets right now.

I had an old Black and Decker power screwdriver for years which used Versa Pack batteries. When it decided it no longer wanted to work, I replaced it with the Black and Decker PD600. What a waste of money. It never worked longer then 5 minutes. If I charged it, I had to use it immediatly or it would be dead. After about 6 months it didn't work at all. Then I bought the DeWalt and it's great. I comes with a case, charger and two batteries that last forever (although I've only used it for light usage). My only complaint is that I wish it would have another fold lock at maybe a 45° angle.

This thing is just excellent. Lots of power. Logical design with the driver bits stored in the handle for ready access. Battery securely held, but easy to remove for charging. Very comfortable to hold and use. Only thing that would make it better would be if it were more compact. There have been times when it simply would not fit in tight corners. That's why I bought a Milwaukee 6546-6 power screwdriver. That tool is far less impressive and only beats the DeWalt on compactness.
If you buy the Dewalt, you will not regret it.

I have had this tool for over a year. I bought it because the inline screwdriver had some advantages due to its weight, size, and flexibility over my 18-volt DeWalt RAD and 18-volt DeWalt drill/driver, both of which I had previously used exclusively for a year and a half on small and large projects alike. I would never have guessed how many times I found myself grabbing this instead of my trusted 18-volt tools. The build quality is top-notch (less a few crooked labels and loosely clamping case clasps) and the torque and lasting power of the batteries were both excellent. The quick-change keyless chuck is a pleasure to use.
It was the perfect tool for installing an over-the-range microwave. At times I needed to swivel the head to secure screws in hard-to-reach areas, and at other times I required a good amount of torque and delicate speed control. The tool provided both effortlessly.
During recent projects, however, I found myself requiring a more compact bend radius than this tool would allow. I actually had to use hand tools to finish the job! All joking aside, this added another 10 minutes to each task and several trips back and forth from my basement. I realized that I needed a more compact in-line screwdriver that could swivel 90 degrees and could operate in very tight spaces. I had to wait some time because what I wanted didn't exist. Then I came across the new Bosch PS10-2 Litheon 10.8 Volt Lithium-Ion I-Driver Kit.
The Bosch I-Driver can articulate 90 degrees, has only a 3.5 inch head length, is rated at 80 in-lbs of torque, and is powered by lithium ion batteries. The only down-sides are that it is pricey at $150 (a little better at $135 with Amazon's current 10% sale on power tools), comes with a soft case as opposed to a hard plastic case, and has not been rigorously field tested and reviewed by honest Amazon.com customers.
I do not regret purchasing the DeWalt in-line screwdriver. It was the best of its kind on the market at the time, and until recently, it had been my tool of choice for small to moderate-scale and close-quarter tasks. The DeWalt in-line screwdriver is still the best value at $100, but if you are looking for an ultra-compact in-line and right angle drill/driver that is powered with more advanced lithium ion batteries, you may want to look at the Bosch I-Driver. I'll let you know how it performs when I get one.

I have used this product at work for over 5 years, I threw away all of the other brand drivers that I had. This is a workhorse screwdriver/drill lots of power and flexibility, it has survived many drops out of 10 foot ceilings with hitting so hard battery pak fell off then reattaching battery and back to work again. I liked it so well that i bought one to use at home. The battery paks last a long time before recharge the only thing to improve would be having a dual battery charger so that both batteries would be ready to go. The only other thing is the batteries are expensive to replace. Don't waste your money on cheaper screwdrivers this one is built to work hard.

I do Electronics install/repair, and also a fair amount of woodworking/home repair. I've used the Dewalt Cordless Screwdriver daily for 3 years. I've gone through 4 batteries, but they lasted a normal amount of time, for their type. (and I couldn't beat Dewalt's battery replacement price with a re-built one at "Batteries Plus".)
br /I originally got this driver due to RSS (repetitive stress injury in wrist). My wrist is much better now.
br /There are several things I don't see mentioned that make this driver the best I've used so far.
br /Many have mentioned the basics:
br /Max speed of 600, is higher than many others. and the Variable speed/reversible is a must. (slow start to start some types of screws is a must, especially helps prevent cross threading metal type screws.)
br /Hi speed is a big help with long metal screws- gets em in fast, and the clutch settings prevent damage as they seat. -- But you still have to ck the final tightness of the screw. This is where many drivers fail to perform. This driver is excellent.
br /
br /1. When you let off the trigger, it stops instantly. (It has an electronic brake that keeps the motor from running on) This is VERY important to keep from stripping either screw Heads or Threads in wood screws or Metal screws. There's also times I want it to stop screwing at a certain depth. It'll stop instantly when I want it to.
br /
br /2. When I STOP, the shaft LOCKS!! This is VERY important, and is something the cheaper drills and drivers do NOT do. It allows me to set the clutch to a setting of "3" for driving small metal thread screws, and when the clutch "clicks", I stop and finish the final "snugging" of the screw by physically turning the screwdriver handle like normal. (perhaps an 8th of a turn) So, I can control the final force I apply, and I don't strip the head or threads.
br /-- Likewise, I can set it to a high setting like 8 or more, and drive a wood screw into a deck, and do the final counter-sinking turn by hand, so I don't drive it too deep.
br /I've also used it to take apart shipping pallets (bolted together with 9/16" x 6" bolts and TEE nuts). I can do the initial "breaking free" of the bolt by "hand twisting" the driver, THEN I press the trigger to turn the bolt out. (This also lengthens the battery run-time.)
br /
br /Battery: I get more than 1-week use out of a battery before I swap in my spare. Charge time is fast, but with a spare battery I don't have to worry about it, since I don't take the charger on the job with me.
br /
br /It's got excellent BALANCE. I can flip it to re-orient it tip up or down, and it's easily caught and operated with no fuss.
br /
br /Accessories I've added:
br /- High-quality "Jacobs drill chuck to hex bit adapter" for drilling with. (The first cheap "hand tighten" chuck I got was soft metal and the hex-shaft easily bent. I've drilled 3/8" holes with no problem now in 2" wood. I've also used it for for drilling and re-tapping holes.
br /It'll certainly pass in a pinch for a "drill", but I switch to a faster real drill if having to do extensive drilling.
br /
br /- Screwdriver "bit extender/magnetic adapter". The hex bit holder this driver has does NOT have a magnet in it. It will NOT hold your ferrous metal screws in place while you hold them upside down. Note: The best screw "bit holders" can use the shorter 1" long bits (without the detent), have a strong magnet, and also a spring-ring clip to help hold the bit in place as well. The Bit holder built into this driver cannot use the short 1" long size screwdriver bits without an adapter.
br /The only thing I'd like to see changed to it's current design would be the addition of a strong magnet to the bottom of the bit holder hole.
br /
br /The only problem I've seen is recently I've noticed gear whine when it's cold (needs to be re-greased?). Both of the "Model labels" have long since fallen or been rubbed off, and I've noticed this is common, from other Dewalt drivers I've seen in the field.
br /
br /I'm currently eyeing the Bosch PS10-2 driver. It has same specs, and is much shorter, and can do both in-line and 90-degree driving, but it only has 7 "electronic" clutch settings. It has slightly higher "no load?" rpm. It's advantage is it's much shorter and has lithium ion battery, but I can't tell if it has shaft lock? It appears it does have electronic brake. Would it be as wonderfully heavy duty as the Dewalt driver is? (I've applied some pretty heavy "torque" by hand tightening the Dewalt on some large metal bolts, with no failure yet). The Bosch design looks like I'd have to be twisting against the gears in the swivel head gearbox?- (but it's worthless to me if it doesn't "lock the shaft"! ??)
br /- A reviewer said the Bosch electronic clutch simply stops the Bausch driver SILENTLY, rather than have a louder "clutch ratchet noise" of the Dewalt- which could be good for work done in "quiet office" job sites.

Lives up to the Dewalt name. Works fine. I use it daily and have no issues. It is perfect for the type use it designed for. Not for heavy duty use, though. Will stall out in heavy load situations. But it's not designed for hard screwing. You will need special hex bits to use in this tool because chuck is spring loaded hex type. Great tool for around the house and some service work. Could be a real friend to an electrician.

br /
br /I have owned several Craftsman drill drivers and of similar capabilities, but their best similar style drill/driver is gutless compared to the torque and battery life of this Dewalt driver.

While sold as a screwdriver, the DeWalt DW920K-2 is also a very practical drill motor and nut driver. I use it on projects that do not require beefy drill motors. The size and weight is excellent for extended use without the tiresome effects of the standard drill motor. The batteries charge quickly and have very good life. I have been using DeWalt products for many years and I truly believe that they are the best products available.

I have been delighted with this product since I switched from the only available competor which was a SKILL 3.something volt, which worked well for the stae-of-the-art batteries of the time.
br /
br /I dropped my first Dewalt about 14 feet to concrete and it did'nt hold up to well. It was three years old. I immediately ordered another. Gorilla Glue and a little duct tape for clamping and the first was good to go, and still is. Yes, I lost the swivel feature, which I never used, but darn....it's still. ticking. The New (2nd one) is as strong as ever and my Union now allows us to use cordless tools and when I came out with this "little" screwdriver, instead of an 18 volt or now 24 volt...climb around the job site and get the job done. I think I've probably convinced several hundred tradesmen to consider "job fatigue" instead of raw horse power..(volts) to their advantage. Dewalt keep them coming.

This screwdriver is tough, and has an abundant amount of torque for it's size. I have used one for several years and have yet to have it quit on me. I have worn out several batteries with it and have 3 of them now. It performs better than any screwdriver of it's type that I have ever used. It's small size makes it even better. The only slight downside to it is it's speed. It could be a little faster driving screws but all of it other performance features make up for that somewhat. Overall it is an oustanding product. It is easier/almost to catch one on sale and buy a new one than it is to replace the batteries.

This is a great tool with what I consider a major design problem, that can and should be fixed by dewalt to receive 5 stars from all that use it. The chuck has a feature where you pull it back and insert your bit, but it need almost no pressure to do this which leads to anything from a bump or a drop of the screwdriver to easily eject the bit. If you use this as a tradesman you are sure to lose alot of bits. Carry it in your tool bag and your sure to search for the bit. Dewalt needs to make a chuck that needs either more pressure to release or a locking system. This is such a useful tool for anyone, but climb a ladder and bump the chuck, you'll be exhausted, or you may turn to your bigger cordless that knows how to keep a bit!

It works wonderfully and is light enough so I do not get arm fatigue. Did I mentiton my male friends and acquaintances are really impressed that I know enough about tools to purchase DeWalt products? (It's from reading the Amazon reviews-Thanks!) I donated all my non-Dewalt oldies (Craftman, B&D) to Goodwill.

I've owned this for several months, and I also own a Hilti SF 121-A 12V cordless drill. Without question, the Hilti is the best of its type on the market. My Hilti is too big to get into tight spaces, like inside some electronics, so I definitely need a cordless screwdriver.
Where the DeWalt falls short of being a 5 star product is the wrong direction of the chuck release (as mentioned by other reviewers,) and the quality of the trigger switch, as compared to my Hilti. The switch increases power as you increase pressure on it, but its not as responsive, or as smooth as the switch on the Hilti. The Hilti costs $250, so at 2 1/2 times the price, its not a completely fair comparison.
I considered buying the Metabo. I've never used it, but Metabo, along with Hilti, has a reputation as the best of the contractor grade manufacturers. The Metabo is very appealing. Although its less powerful than the DeWalt, its also very small (perfect for my needs) and has an impecible pedigree. The Metabo has a fatal flaw: The on/off switch is binary. There is no ability to vary the speed with the trigger.
So it comes down to this. If you compare this $99 cordless screwdriver to a $250 Hilti, you'll find flaws. If you take the product for what it is, compare it to others in its class, and have a need for this type of product, get this DeWalt. You won't be able to part with it once you start using it.

I actually like everything about Dewalt's DW920 screwdriver with exception of the 1/4" quick release chuck. The chuck does work as designed. However, there is one very important detail that Dewalt seems to have missed, and I just can't believe that no one else has mentioned it. The chuck should have been designed with a lock position requiring the user to push the collar forward as opposed to pulling it back to release, such as with an air hose coupling. Even just putting stiffer springs in the chuck to increase the force needed to push the collar back might make all the difference, because with the current design, if the chuck collar even slightly bumps into anything at all, it moves back, releasing the bit and letting it fall out. This includes when you drop the screwdriver into your tool bucket along side other tools or slide it bit down into your tool pouch or drill holster. As stated previously, I really like the overall design of the DW920 because it is hands down the best cordless screwdriver out there. But, unfortunately for my needs, this one exceedingly frustrating and productivity-killing feature undercuts the entire tool and relegates the otherwise superior DW920 from what would easily be a "first choice" in the field tool to a "last choice" bench work only tool. If Dewalt would only improve the design of the chuck, I would never leave the shop without it.

This is a fantastic buy fantastic product. I have purchased several of them for all the engineers and techs in my department. We originally purchased the Milwaukee cordless but they just didn't have the torque or the power the DeWalt gave me. I can set the clutch setting to 4 and it will remove screws at that setting the Milwaukee would not even remove. I purchased the first one from amazon about 3 years ago and have been purchasing them for all my new engineers and also to replace the milwaukee drivers since that time. But make sure you purchase them from amazon because I have thoroughly searched the internet for about 2 years looking for a cheaper price and have not found one so I quit searching about a year ago. I have seen this item selling for up to $160.00 from other vendors.

The DeWalt 7.2 volt drivers get used all day in a compressor warranty analysis lab. High torque bolts are broken by hand and these drivers are used to remove and then reinstall them. A couple of these drivers are over 3 years old and still work like new. Only have to replace the batteries every two years. These DeWalt batteries hold up much better than the clone batteries we have tried. Price at AMAZON is best I could find.

I'm a big fan of DeWalt and this is a good "commercial" grade tool. But, why DeWalt (Black & Decker) chose to only use 7.2v is a mystery. Also, being mfd in China, this tool is way over-priced.
I've found a better alternative, the B&D XD1200K 12-Volt 5-Position Drill/Driver (ASIN: B00006S7D0). About $31 on Amazon with a coupon. A second battery can be found for $30 or less, if required. Both tools are produced in the SAME Chinese factory too!
12v VS 7.2v
0-700 rpm VS 0-500 rpm
105 in-lbs VS 80 in-lbs Torque
24 VS 16 Clutch Settings
5 Position VS 2 Postion Head Rotation
Except for some VersaPak 'toys', the XD1200K is the only B&D tool I own. Everything else is DeWalt. In this 'contest' however, the B&D wins hands down. They should repackage the XD1200K as a DeWalt, raise the price, and clean up!

Needs the bit release that their impact driver has . Their impact driver's release has to be pushed forward to remove the bit. This screwdriver release merely needs to be pulled back to remove the bit. However, you bump the release often when using the screwdriver and ZING there goes your bit. I contacted DeWalt but they seemed a bit arrogant so I cannot recommend the screwdriver. (Actually it has been several years since my original review and those arrogant dumbasses at Dewalt still haven't changed the bit holder. So I can absolutely say "do not buy this screwdriver".)
