I purchased this primarily to unscrew video game systems forrepair and have not regretted the purchase. Though at 109 bucks it isnot exactly an impulse item, for me it was since I figured the more you pay the better the quality right? heres what you get for that the price: -three screwdriver bits-two phillips(one long bit and one short), and one slotted bit. -A drill chuck, chuck key and three drill bits -charger and two batteries -bit for socket sets I have not regretted making the purchase as it does the job very well of removing screws at a rapid clip. It has a variable torque/speed setting, you sacrifice one for the other, it has a high, medium and low power setting. (I have not read the manual in its entirety so I don't know what it does. It has no noticeable effect when switched in either position)It has separate forward and reverse buttons and a locking feature to turn the screw manually. It comes in a cheesy plastic carrying case with plastic locking clips (not very durable) but the case itself is solid.the only problem that I could see is that the screw driver bits are not magnetized, which can be a real pain when handling small screws in tight spots. Overall this is a very good addition to any tool box and fully worth the price tag.

I bought 2 of these cordless screwdrivers years ago to help me in my job as a mechanical engineer and product designer. I kept one for myself and the other was for everybody else! It proved invaluable when assembling complex prototype instruments. I eventually bought a second battery pack, a drill chuck and a 1/4" socket adaptor with various nut driving sockets.pI'd forgotten about that wonderful tool until I recently had to disassemble, clean and reassemble a banjo with 50 brackets. The screws that held the brackets were very tight and after struggling with a few I remembered that fantastic screwdriver.pI happily found that Amazon was selling an ideal set; screwdriver with two battery packs, drill chuck, and 1/4" adaptor in a great case.pI find that it is really an indispensable tool if you do a lot of screwing (pardon my English). The banjo came apart and went together most handily. I ordered a number of long hex sockets to fit the various sizes of banjo nuts, and I'm delighted every time I use it. The torque setting lets me pick the right value to appropriately tension the bracket screws.pAll in all, I'm delighted with this tool and very highly recommend it to anybody dealing with assembly of many fasteners. It is also a very handy light duty electric drill.

Fantastic tool! Well worth the money!

I was given one of these by my brother a couple of years ago. He brworks with computers, and had found it to be an invaluable asset, so thought I might like one. At that time my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome was getting bothersome, and using a manual screwdriver for any length of time was sheer agony. ( I've since had surgery to repair that problem, but I still love the ease of using this tool.) pThis is the best cordless driver I've ever seen. The compact size, flex handle and light weight make it easy to handle and fit into tight spaces, especially with the offset driver head in case the space is a little too tight. Eliminates a lot of torture working under the dash in my car and in other equally inaccessible spaces. But for all of its small size, it kicks out an amazing amount of torque.pMy only problem is that mine was stolen, so I've just ordered myself a new one. You can bet I will be a lot more careful about locking this one up when I'm not using it.pIf you've got even one "handyperson" bone in your body, buy one of these for yourself--you won't regret it!

Do you work in or own a auto repair or body shop? If the answer is "yes" then you have answered another question also, "Do I really need one of the cordless screwdrivers?". I own a automotive repair shop and I honestly do know what I would do without my three Milwaukee 6547-22 2.4-Volt 2-Speed Cordless Screwdriver!!! Other than batteries, this tool is going to last you a long, long time. Its compact size will speed up productivity by getting in those tough to reach places like under the dash and engine compartment. Great tool!!!

I used one of these for years working on ag airplanes, which consist of dozens of panels held together with hundreds of stainless steel phillips machine screws that cost about $1 each. The torque setting keeps you from stripping the heads. The lock setting will even let you operate "dzus" fasteners with a flat blade. The interchangable batteries keeps you going all day. pIf you have lots of screws to take out and put back in, this tool will keep the blisters at bay! It ought to be great on sheet metal, too.

I TAKE IT WITH ME!

Yup, it goes in my trunk, or in my truck. It is that important. And, the Milwaukee Offset head fits in the carry case with the extra battery and charger. So, if you are like me, and you must have the proper tool for the job. And the job must be done right. Well then, here is another Milwaukee that is a must have! When you get it, buzz your name right into the outside of the case with your Dremel. And you will be set for many, many satifying years to come. Good Luck, and God Bless.

br /You're in the bigs now-
br /This will be a step up for many folks from the typical household rechargeable "stick" drivers that typically must plug into the wall to recharge, typically taking overnight to do so, only to typically die after just a few 3" x 3/16ths wood screws into an untapped piece of typical southern pine [don't even think poplar]. Milwaukee, for most in the trade, has been and continues to be considered as a manufacturer of first class but no frills tradeline tools.
br /
br /Sometimes hot ain't so hot-
br /Previous versions of this model had problems overheating the batteries and as you are probably aware, heat and batteries isn't a good combo and one that you'll sometimes get with "frys"; some units reportedly caught on fire and suffered a complete meltdown. However, this was a rare occasion and most cases of overheating just led to a very expensive and curiously short-lived battery[streetprices around $40-$50 per batt].
br /
br /None-the-less-
br /Milwaukee redesigned the charging units [old Vs new = cooling vents on side Vs cooling vents on top respectively]. Another distinction between the old spontaneous combustion chargers and their safer successors is the handy little built-in bit compartment on the original charger has been removed.
br /
br /Twice removed-
br /Sadly, Milwaukee as have many other manufacturers, moved the production of this model offshore, Japan specifically, but has not suffered in build quality as have many other tools making this journey.
br /
br /What goes around-
br /Japan is now considered to be the Asian counterpart to "German engineering" and thier factory workers are paid premium wages, often in short supply leading Japan to respond by allowing more immigrants across their borders to fill the gap left behind as the majority of the Japan's workers moved into the technical valley from the industrial park, "uninterested in doing those kinds of jobs". Sound familiar?
br /
br /Build it and they will come-
br /There are some relatively new kids on the block that directly compete with this stick driver, most notably Panasonic's facsimile [a worthy adversary] and newest of all managing a more innovative form factor is Bosch's Ion stick driver, both of which cost a tad more than Milwaukee's version, but arguably have some advantages over this "classic".
br /
br /Two speeds better than one?
br /Hellsya! Especially when that speed is doubled. As with all powered drivers, the inverse rule of higher speed=lower torque ability applies. Hence, the greatest power differential is between lowest speed+highest torque setting["6" on the somewhat obscured scale]which can easily strip out sheetmetal and wood screws, Vs highest speed+lowest torque setting which can let you just snug that switchplate screw without hearing that soft but very unpleasant and all too familiar "crrraccck".
br /
br /But have no fear-
br /Unlike many lesser competitors, especially "household" stick drivers, Milwaukee's torque settings offer a wide and *precise* range of torque settings for most applications [6x2], any even better, the very tactile ring and positive torque detents which are handily[but not so visibly]located on the ring just at the business end of this driver. Furthermore, the detents on this very tactile ring aren't limited to just six positions as the numbers would suggest, but many intermediate positions for that "just right" setting that can snug your fastener perfectly into place. For heavier applications, a little bee's wax or soap on the threads goes a long way and also helps to keep things from going squeak in the night.
br /
br /Faster baby, faster-
br /The addition of the higher speed [400rpm] lacking on Milwaukee's less expensive model actually makes this stick driver capable of being a stick drill[a goal to which many stick drivers secretly aspire], but only for those with either a great deal of patience and time yet perfect for that decorative solid brass hinge on that music box you've been promising your ______ since _______.
br /
br /"I'm giving her all she's got, Captain"-
br /Ok, four-hundred revolutions per minute is less than half that of the slowest speed of cheapest cordless drill but still good in a pinch and great when you have many many many screws.
br /
br /It's a matter of perspective-
br /One warning: some may look at the pictures above and erroneously surmise this stick is capable of bending into a perfect right angle. It does not. More like 70deg or 120deg, it's a matter of perspective.
br /
br /What's this thingy for-
br /While not a rubik's cube, this stick driver offers some very nifty controls. As mentioned previously, the torque setting is located on the black ring surrounding the bit holder: a perfect place and a perfect feel. Just below and very close without being in the way is the speed switch, not variable, just two clicks, forward=low, backward=fast.
br /Just below is a curious little sliding "safety" switch that moves side-to-side, unlike the speed control. Slide to the left and you can't engage the motor unless you are really really determined. I'm not convinced this is really necessary or even desirable [try getting that one little screw tightened that you can just about reach and. . .$#^$! You get the idea. Oh, now you can look for that screw that just fell off and bounced over. . .er. . .$)@#$!
br /
br /Oh, here it is-
br /Just below the questionable safety switch is a "momentary" switch[read "must keep pressing"] allowing your thumb to easily toggle the power in either direction. And if you aren't already aware, "reverse" can be a very good thing and just like that time you got your car stuck in the mud, being able to toggle between forward and reverse quickly can be real handy. However, unlike that particular fond memory, you won't hear any gears grinding.
br /
br /The bottomline-
br /So how does this all translate in the real world? Wonderfully. . .if your criteria are precision over brute force and versatility over speed. This model has survived many years with little modification. All the controls are placed where they should be placed, feel how they should feel, even after many years of use, and even after enough time has passed that most of the fine print etched onto the plastic housing has become unrecognizable. The heft is enough to let you know you don't have a toy in your hand [approx. 14.2oz w/batt], but light enough for either gender and even for those challenged by limited range or motion that would restrict the use of a "manual" screwdriver, and balance is good [about 55/45 w/batt].
br /
br /Does it come in colors?
br /This is one of those crossover tools that is as appropriate to find in the bottom left kitchen drawer of a designer kitchen as it would be to carry in a battle-worn not-so-pretty toolbox. The bits supplied are good quality standard 1/4inch hex feed that firmly snap into place without fearing an "accidental discharge" or feeling wobbly. The durablity, size, weight, power, precision, versatility, and feel means autotechs love these for interior work, A/C mechanics love these for control panels and tight spaces, woodworkers love these for attaching hardware to their projects, and I hear tell trade carpenters in California use these to frappe their eight dollar Starbuck's mocha lattes'.
br /Sorry, no chartruese but you do get a very nice, heavy, polished drill chuck attachment to show off to your friends or take down the neighbor's plastic, faded pink flamingo with the missing leg at about forty paces, gratis! Apparently, their engineers have been locked away for the last decade and someone needs to get word to them that hex-end drill bits are no longer just a distant dream.
br /
br /It's all that and a bag of chips-
br /So why the four stars?!?!?! Well, as stated, this model has been around for a long time. I mean a *very* long time. Long enough to design an improved case layout to allow for an unshifting collection of bits and a special place for the very shiny, but not-so-cheap and decidedly overwieght close-quarter angle attachment with that odd thumb? brace that usually manages to fall off before you reach whatever it is you're trying to reach. Battery life is fair, not great[you will need the two batteries], and the charger could be faster. These issues may appear nitpicking to some, but for the hundred bucks Milwaukee has been collecting for each of these and for the three decades they've been collecting, are these things really too much to ask for in return?

I'm actually buying a replacement battery (after 4 years of use), but wanted to add a quick comment that this has been a favorite tool of mine. I put together computers, screw network eqpt. into equipment racks and occasionnaly use it to torque wood screws into pine 2x4's and occasional drilling into sheet metal as well as other light tasks. It travels well and has good battery life and surprising torque for a 2.4v device. I'm presuming no one buying this will be delusional enough to think they're goingto drive tapcons into concrete with this thing, but for "light duty" this is a gem. I used to buy craftsman and blackdecker, but both are a mere shadow of their old selves, most notoriously, BD is now simply a marketing firm for lowest bidder import junk tools. This tool is the real mccoy.

This is a nice compact power driver for the average homeowner's needs. If you want a good driver for putting toys together, installing and removing light plates etc. it fits the bill. It doesn't have enough power or stanima for more arduous jobs. Battery life isn't as good as it could be and I still haven't been able to find replacement batteries. That's what I was doing on this site.

I can't tell you how many BD power screwdrivers I've purchased for roughly $30 just to have them fail after 1 1/2 years to 2 years of routine, home use. The last time, I had it for about a year and the thing called it quits. The first thing I realized was that I was going to have to spend around $100 for a decent contractor grade screwdriver. This seemed like a lot at first, but after realizing that I had already spent over $100 in cheaper screwdrivers that simply did not last, I accepted the amount.
br /
br /So, I want to get a new power screwdriver, but which one? Initial research reduced the number of brands to three which wasn't too bad: DeW..., Pana... and Milwaukee. I must tell you that although I like the look and specifications of DeW... tools, they tend to be a fifty-fifty hit with quality overall. They're great for certain tools like drills and circular saws, but I didn't find great reviews on the screwdriver. The one thing that made me stay away from the DeW... was the design of the bit chuck. Owners wrote that the chuck is pulled back to lock the bit in place, but complained of bits falling out when inserting the tool in a workbelt or when the screwdriver was accidentally dropped. Having a bit fall out when up in the attic with hands full really doesn't sound too cool to me.
br /
br /The Pana... had excellent reviews and people wrote of them lasting 10 to 15 years. Sounds great, but I'm not aware of many Pana... power tools so finding service or additional parts might be difficult. So I went for the Milwaukee.
br /
br /I purchased the Milwaukee 6547-22 Kit, 2.4 Volt, 2 Speed cordless screwdriver for $110 from Amazon. The kit comes with two batteries, a charger, a chuck, a few bits (including a few drill bits), and the screwdriver. It's works well for light drilling such as when mounting wall anchors and such, but it doesn't replace a drill. I didn't expect that since I bought it for driving screws (hence the name). It's also very light and easily fits in a workbelt.
br /
br /It's nice to be able to do all light work such as mounting raceway or putting together furniture with just one tool. So far, it has been excellent and it's the first tool I grab when having to do any work that involves screws. I also had to install a threshold in the patio and this is where it really shined. I adjusted the torque to its maximum and set the speed to low and was able to drive the screws two inches into the concrete (holes were predrilled of course). Not a problem and it stopped exactly where I wanted it too. This was after my 18 Volt drill ripped the head off the center screw, though. Oh well, you live and you learn.
br /
br /I definitely like the screwdriver, but it would be nice if it had just a little more power. For this reason, I'd give it four stars in an ideal world, but compared to the other power screwdrivers in the market I'll give it five. Being that it is for home use, I expect it to last quite some time.

I purchased one unit to review/test for our electrical panel shop. After one month it was decided to purchase a second unit but unforunately that one was stolen before we could pass it out to the next electrician. We are buying a third and fourth unit because we are convinced of the superb quality, ease of use, light weight and overall feel of the tool. Nice job, Milwaukee. After many years of use in business and at home, this electric screwdriver is the best there is. I have tried others, but they are too big and clunky. This unit is small and well balanced. I have the old single speed(15 years old) and the new two speed driver (3 years). I like the two speed because it still has the power if needed and the bonus of more speed when driving long screws. I bought the right angle driver and the drill chuck but I have hardly ever used either. I plan to buy another to take along to the job site.

I have two of these screwdrivers that we use for assembly - probably an average of 500 screws a week. The screwdrivers are great, but the batteries quit working after a few months. We have also replaced several chargers. When the chargers go, they overcharge, and ruin a battery. I also have a 14V Milwaukee drill, and the batteries don't last long on it either. Seems like a company that makes such a high quality tool would get it together on the batteries.

First, let me state that I don't work for Milwaukee or any of their competitors. I'm just a consumer like you are. I couldn't decide if I wanted this Milwaukee cordless screwdriver or the Panasonic. When you compare what you get for your money and what you want to use your cordless screwdriver for, well, it's a no brainer. Unless you need a cordless screwdriver to drive hundreds of 4 inch screws into 2x6's, stay away from the Panasonic. You only get one battery and a charger with the Panasonic. With this red beauty you get not 1, but two 2.4volt batteries, a one hour charger, a package of bits for drilling and driving, a keyed chuck which is something I'm always needing (especially when I need to drive small pilot holes) and a beautiful red carry case embossed with the name Milwaukee on it. It's a very impressive package and it works. It also bends into a pistol type driver so you can get into those hard to reach areas. It is also very powerful at 26in./lbs of torque. This is the little red engine that works and works and works and.....Buy it. You won't be sorry and it will quickly become your favorite tool...

Perhaps I shoulda read all the description first.

I bought two of these screwdrivers when this model was produced by its original manufacturer, AEG Telefunken, in 1982. That company was known for good, reliable conservatively-designed equipment. "Fine German Engineering". But the company went under about 1990. It appears to me that Milwaukee obtained the design, because little is changed, except the color - from the original black to red. After 20 years, I had to replace the AEGs. I chose the Milwaukee, because I was quite satisfied with the the AEG tool. Unfortunately, while the driver and charger are the equivalent of the AEGs, the batteries are not. The AEG batteries lasted me 10-15 years. The Milwaukee batteries all lasted just past their warranty, a year. After replacing four batteries in a row, I have decided I can no longer afford this tool. These batteries were all purchased at various times and therefore must have been from different manufacturing batches, so a bad production run cannot explain my experience. I tested the charger and it is working correctly. The tool has no defect that can explain the poor battery life. In four years, I have paid more in replacement batteries than the tool originally cost. I no longer have a functioning battery, but rather than replace the it, I am going to replace the tool with one of the new lithium-battery screwdrivers, either the Hitachi DB3L or the Bosch PS20-2.

While most quality tools of this type are priced similarly, Milwaukee's version comes with bonuses. The charger is a fast high-current type which, when combined with the second battery, will never leave you without power. The keyed 3-jaw chuck accessory will give you lots of ideas for additional applications in addition to drilling small holes. The geared slow speed allows this tiny tool to easily drive #8 screws into virgin wood.

I have no idea when Milwaukee first came out with this cordless screwdrive. I may have had one of the first made. All I know for sure is that, 10 years later, the darn thing still works great. The batteries have held up just fine; I've never had to replace one. It has great torque, and does everything you'd want a cordless screwdriver to do. If this thing every gives up the ghost, you can be sure I'll buy another. It's been a tremendous value.

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. This is a great cordless screwdriver. Mechanically, one of the best, if not the best, out there. However, batteries are awful. They don't hold charge for long and become completely useless after a year. Replacement batteries are very expensive. After the third battery died on me, I retired this tool and temporarily switched to a Skil 2336-02 3.6V 120V Mini-Drill/Driver USA that has a Li-Ion battery. I will soon upgrade to a Bosch PS20-2 Litheon 10.8 Volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries which currently appears to be the best cordless screwdriver out there.

I use this cordless screwdriver at work as a HVAC/refrigeration tech. It works okay. Not as strong as I expected and the battery does not last as long as I expected. I had a Craftsman cordless (made by Black Decker) before. The battery on that one would last a week with frequent use, this one only lasts a day or two. Maybe there is a better battery available, haven't checked. The old one was more for home use so it did break after just a year or so with what I use it for, this one has a 5 year warranty which is good.

Bot 3 sets Lechmere closeout 10 years ago. Use sporadically and have experience that batteries last 4 years plus/minus. Buy a new one each year, keep 3-4 going. Inside batt are two industrial "C" Ni-Cads - older ones develop memory. To utilize best, discharge to 5% remain, then full. Not user replaceable. The torgue is enough to twist the unit out of a strong grip, but they are best for light/medium assembling, not all day heavy duty
br /unless a few charged batteries on hand. 1-10 Torque settings are useful with more delicate materials. Unit will turn to torque then click to prevent over tightening. High voltage drills are for all day house-building. 10 years use, units built to industrial strength, built to last. Package is good deal as retail batts are $30 and charger $40+.
