This thing ties with my Bosch jigsaw for favorite tool in my home shop. It's tough, powerful and cheap. If you're looking for a high-quality drill for home projects, this is the one to buy. Forget cordless if you're on a budget; you'll spend more money for something less powerful that constantly runs out of power in the middle of a project. Your house has electricity. Buy an extension cord and put your money into quality rather than batteries.

I have owned this drill for nearly two months. This was purchased as a replacement for my old Skil Drill and has been awesome. The keyless chuck is excellent - I have not experienced ANY loosening as some other reviewers have, The speed control is perfection and the power is impressive. I don't like cordless powertools much and am always on the lookout for a good tool for a great price. This one fits the bill.

I've used DeWalt Drills before, and they've always seemed solid. This drill keeps that impression going. The Manufacturer Notes for some tools are way too glowing. Read the ones for this drill - they're right on. The keyless chuck is the best I've ever seen, the bits just dont slip, even in soft gummy woods that tend to bind up bits. It's good to see that improvements can still be made, and the price stays the same as the old model.

This is a very nice, well designed drill. I use it mostly for drilling pocket holes with a Kreg jig. It's so much easier to drill pocket holes with this powerful 2500 RPM corded drill, compared to a slow cordless drill. This drill is super powerful, well balanced, and has a very comfortable hand grip. The Jacobs ratcheting chuck works nicely and has a great feel when tightened. The Dewalt case is also very nice with plenty of extra storage space and metal latches. My only complaint, though, is that this drill is very noisy. I wish Dewalt would focus more engineering on lowering noise output.

This drill works fantastic! The first project I used it on was to drill mounting holes for casters into 8/4 rock maple. This drill handled the task perfectly. I have been using this drill for about 6 months now with no complaints.
br /
br /I use it primarily in tandem with my other cordless drill. I use it mainly to drill the holes and use my other drill to drive screws.
br /
br /I have not had any problems with the keyless chuck.

I agree with the reviews describing the tool as powerful and great feel to it. I will be exchanging my second one very soon. The first one's chuck would not stay tight and would slip on the bit. The second one has a defective switch. It will not stop running when you release the trigger in forward direction. In reverse, it will stop. The trigger hangs on the forward-reverse lever. A drop of oil did not help. This is a potentially dangerous situation when the drill does not stop until you manually pull the switch out or unplug it. However, I will try one more time to get a good one. I like the tool design.

THE UPSIDE
br /
br /1) It's CHEAP!! Feels well made, but under $60.
br /
br /2) The motor is smooth and torquey, and spins up to 2500 rpm so it's useful for using with a wire wheel.
br /
br /3) Ratcheting keyless chuck really locks down well.
br /
br /THE DOWN SIDE
br /
br /1) Concerned about the quality of the power cord. I have a Dewalt 1/4 pad sander and after 6 years the condition of the power cord began to deteriorate. It's like it started to dry-rot. It always stays in my garage too!
br /
br /
br /SUMMARY
br /
br /That's really about it. It's not heavy duty, and for that I have a Milwaukee Magnum 1/2" Drill. But for the price I would buy this WAY OVER an economy drill like Black and Decker, Task Force, General Machinery Corp, Central Electric (UGHH!!H!H!! why do people get sucked into buying junk like that???) or Ryobi

I got this drill for a gift for someone, and the case it came in is cheap and the levers that close the box are really loose, so it feels like it could open at any time. More importantly though, so far, the drill seems powerful and pretty easy to handle, which is more important than the case it came in.

This drill is great for most all drilling applications. The keyless chuck works wonderfully. I don't know how I ever lived without it. It holds great and has never slipped on bits from 1/8" to 1/2" in diameter. It also came with a case for $59.00. This is a no brainer. It is a professional drill at a bargain price.

Powerful drill with easy to use, good-gripping chuck. Bubble level in handle helps to drill vertical or horizontal holes. Speed control is easy to use. The one I got is a bit wobbly, the chuck center isn't quite in-line with the motor or shaft center; so when I use a long bit, the whole unit wobbles quite a lot. I've broken a few bits because of this.

The drill powers up immediately to full speed and is not useable for driving screws. Not a variable speed device even though it claims to be a 'VSR' drill. OK for drilling holes.

Halfway through a project my cordless drill lost its power. I decided to get a corded drill so I wouldn't have to wait for a battery to charge up (Quite frankly, I think the Ryobai needs a new battery. I decided to go for a new drill instead). This DeWalt is much more powerful than my cordless drill and yet it's also easy to handle. I have a couple of criticisms, however. It's hard to slow it down; when you're trying to make the last couple of turns on a screw, you don't need a high speed. My variable speed cordless drill really allows you to adjust the speed to your needs. Also, drill bits slipped from the chuck a couple of times. My cordless has a keyless chuck and I never had this problem. I haven't owned this drill for very long, however, and I assume that once I've mastered it, I won't have these problems.

I bought this drill because I was tired of my heavy duty cordless drills being dead and having to wait for them to charge to use them. This is a basic 6 amp corded drill with a good jacobs chuck and foward and reverse gears. It comes with a hard shell case for storage. For the price it has held up to my expectations.

This is a nice affordable drill. Lightweight and powerful. No, it is not a 1/2" Milwaukee Magnum, but those are heavy and expensive. Mine came with the all-metal chuck featured on the D21009, so they must have ditched the plastic chuck. The only thing I would like is an adjustable torque to make it a driver as well. This thing will blow through a lot of stuff with a screw-driver bit--and I hate cordless tools (actually I hate the need to continue buying new batteries).

I just bought this yesterday after my cheapo Ryobi drill died on me in mid-project. This fits the bill perfectly. The keyless chuck is nice and solid, locks right on the bit. Much more powerful than my old Ryobi (alto I did move up from 4.5 amps to 6 with this one). Construction is very tight and everything is very solid. Final plus, the case is nice and roomy with plenty of space to put a container for your bits.
br /
br /Only thing that takes some getting used to is how sensitive the trigger can be--variable speed depending on how much it's depressed, and it's very sensitive.
br /
br /Other than that perfect! I would say this is probably the best drill you can find before you get into the "contractor-level" equipment.

Being my first power tool, I have put this drill through its paces to stunning success. This drill has done duty as the main household drill, a contractors drill driving lag screws 12 hours a day for several weeks, and now, it serves as a powerful tool in my wood shop.
br /
br /This tool is tough. Its been dropped down stairs, on concrete and asphalt, from tops of ladders, its been banged around, beaten up, and never once, has it ever missed a beat. I swear I could run my car over this thing, and still not break it. This tool will last you for a very long time no matter the paces you put it through. Its powerful enough to handle almost any job you could ever ask it to do, and it wont even break a sweat doing it. The ratcheting chuck will hold any drill bit tight from 1/16" to 3/8" without any slippage. It powers through wood, masonry, and concrete. Shoot, if this drill were a person, it'd be Goliath in a David sized package.
br /
br /This tool does have some problems associated with it. This Drill is meant for drilling, and driving, but not much else. There is no such thing as slow and steady with this drill, its either stop or go at 2500 rmp's. This drill is great for those people who feel close counts, but for those who feel the need for precision, this drill is not for you. It is all but impossible to drive #4, #6, and #8 wood screws without either stripping the daylights out of them, or torqueing the heads right off. As for noise level, Dragracers aren't known to be quite, and neither is this drill.
br /
br /All and all, this drill has all of the power you could ever ask in a drill. The lack of a variable speed function severely limits the drills versatility forcing it to be a specialized piece of equipment in your shop. Given the chance to purchase this drill or another drill, I'd still purchase this one.

This is a nice corded drill---I use it as a complement for an 18v cordless drill and the 7v DeWalt screwdriver. I will always pick up one of the latter for driving screws or drilling smaller holes. But the DeWalt corded drill is far superior when I need to drill multiple holes or use large bits. For example, when drilling a bunch of pocket holes, this drill is much smoother and quicker than a cordless drill. It's also great for using large spade or auger bits. The other day I had to drill holes through the end of a pressure treated 4x6 with a 1" auger bit, and this drill powered right through the timbers---EXCEPT: it did get stuck pretty bad in one of the timbers and I had to go forward-reverse-forward-reverse a few times to get it unstuck. Might have hit a knot or something---might have also helped to drill half-way, bring out some of the waste, then do the rest. But it shows that you can get this drill stuck under extreme loads.

This drill fills exactly the requirement I needed--one that works when I need it to work. It is powerful and reasonably compact and, though it needs to be connected to an electrical outlet, there are no batteries to fail or need to be charged when the drill is needed. An equivalent battery-powered drill would be much more expensive and, in my experience, much less reliable (NiMh or Li-ion batteries might solve some of the problems with the battery-powered ones).

I am very pleased with the quality and performance of the drill. The variable speed trigger is sensitive when using at a very low speed, but with practice one quickly becomes adapt at this. I really like the 2 way level feature for maintaining straight drilling rather then just guessing.

I almost did not buy this because of the negative comments about not being able to use this for screwing. To the contrary, by using two fingers on the trigger it is very easy to control the speed for work with screws or for slow drilling. I have used it on several projects for screwing or removing screws. I love this product.

I have been using this drill now for a few months, and overall I am disappointed. The keyless chuck has a habit of loosening itself. This is especially noticeable when drilling with spade bits. I occasionally have to drill through two or three 2-by stock at once, and the chuck excels at loosening at these times. The drill also has poor speed control. Under heavier load, when as when trying to tighten a drywall screw the last turn, the drill has a tendency to suddenly overspeed and sink the screw too deeply. I had an old Black and Decker VSR drill that I used for over 15 years and was able to get each drywall screw just right with the fine control that its trigger offered. It does have quit a bit of power and is comfortable in the hand, which is why I am giving it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2.I must say that the problems with this drill took me by surprise, as I have used a friend's cordless DeWalt drill and have been extremely pleased with it. This corded drill is simply not up to the same standard.

I love the convenience of a cordless drill, but I was shocked (no pun intended) at the price of a replacement drill when my old BD cordless system died. I will have to put up with the inconvenience of plugging in a drill again, but this DeWalt drill is a fair-priced quality tool suitable for my home project needs. Additionally, I will have a drill with a reliable power source, and one that will last for years - far longer than the few years it took for the BD batteries to die a sudden and unexpected death. Also, the levelling bubble and the keyless chuck are excellent features.

First off, this drill is now made in Mexico. I'm suspect of how this will affect the durability and reliability of the drill, so whatever positive things I have to say about this drill has that caveat
br / Next, this drill is extremely comfortable in hand, especially for those with medium to small hands. The weight and balance is exceptional as compared to the Milwaukee Magnum drill that I compared it to. That drill was really heavy and the bulk of the weight was balanced towards the front of the drill - not comfortable. The Dewalt drill is powerful enough to handle most chores but I wouldn't use it to drill cement.
br / It's also highly noisy (as compared to Makita drills) so be prepared to be numb in the ears or get earplugs. Overall, for the cheap price, I'd say it's a very useable, solid drill. If it were made in the USA and were quieter, I'd give it 5 stars.
So far so good.

I've not had the opportunity to use the drill much yet. If in five years it's still performing as well as it is now, it will definitely get that last star. The keyless chuck works well and is easy to use. The trigger has a sensitivity that allows quite a range of speeds. A longer cord would be nice, but there's enough room in the case for an extension cord. So far I'm happy with the drill. Perhaps if I were less of a cynic, I would give the drill five stars.
