Description:
This is a reconditioned power tool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like new condition. Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes. DeWalt D21008K is a factory reconditioned heavy-duty 3/8" variable speed reversible drill. Armed with 6 Amps of power, 2500 RPM and the highest torque rating in its class, the D21008K is built to work hard and fast. The drill chuck offers extreme gripping power with a ratcheting lock feature. The two-sleeve design allows users to tighten down on bits with up to 15% more force. Serrated chuck jaws are used to bite into bits to prevent slippage, while the ratcheting lock prevents chuck sleeve from opening during use. The D21008K has the best-in-class ergonomics. The design offers optimal mix of weight, balance, comfort and power. The drill is designed with durability in mind. Quality features such as the glass-filled nylon housing and all-ball-bearing construction ensure long, dependable tool life.Get more product details from Amazon

I have about every tool known to man. I bought this drill mainly because I was curious about the quility. The drill I got looked like new, and I am completely satisfied. I can't say that about the 14.4v cordless from DeWalt. It is a junk--came with a charger that did not a work, a wobley chuck, and a gearbox that was trashed. One of the batteries also lasted only 8 months. My advise: If you are buying a reconditioned tool, buy a corded one, and not a cordless.

I have a lot of experience with 3/8" drills. I have burned up and worn out several light duty consumer models. I have a 40 year old Milwaukee 3.5 amp 1200 RPM 3/8" drill that I have horribly abused for years and haven't managed to kill it yet. It is the most overbuilt tool I have ever used. It is the standard that I use to judge other drills. I bought the DeWalt drill to get the convenience of the keyless chuck and 2500 RPM capabilities on a powerful 3/8" drill. This is a great tool. It is quiet yet powerful. The variable speed control is the best I have used, it is very linear making it easy to hold the desired RPM when drilling. The built in bubble level is a useful feature. The keyless chuck is smooth and easy to use. The click action seems to secure the drill bit with a lot less effort than the keyless chucks on my cordless drills. Changing drill bits is very quick and easy, its the best system I have used. The storage case is generously sized so you don't have to spend all day trying to get the cord in the box. I like it a lot. The only thing that I can think of that might be improved is the plastic finish on the drill. It seems to have a very dull flat finish that attracts dirt and hangs onto it. It was a little smudged when it arrived and it hasn't improved any with use. I have a couple of DeWalt circular saws with yellow plastic motor housings and handles and they seem to have a glossier finish and don't seem to get as dirty and they are a lot easier to wipe clean. But that is a very minor issue, after all it is a tool, it is meant to do work and in the process it will get a little dirty looking. I don't have enough experience with the DeWalt to claim it is equal to the Milwaukee but it seems to perform as well, changing the bits is much easier than my old Jacobs style chuck, and its sale price was less than 1/3 of what a new Milwaukee would cost me. In my opinion this drill is a winner. I don't think you can find a better 3/8" drill for twice the price.
Nice!

Nice drill, can not tell the difference between this refurbished one or a brand new drill. Very good deal and the keyless chuck was the deciding factor for me to get a new drill.

As a woodworking hobbyist I do a lot of pocket hole and dowel joinery, so I can never have enough drills in the shop. At $45 per copy, this deal seemed like a no-brainer, so I bought 2. Though these are factory-reconditioned units and don't retain the full factory warranty, even owner/user-paid repairs are usually pretty cheap.

br /The step drills used in the KregĀ® system require a high speed drill with plenty of power and torque. Cordless tools just won't cut it over the long haul; the D21008K fills the bill nicely. This is a clutchless tool and therefore not really suited to driving wood screws, but hey, I've got other drills to do that. What these units offer is the power and speed to drill holes in hard woods without burning up expensive bits. I've even used them with forstner bits to drill 3/4-inch and larger flat-bottomed holes for doweling.
br /
br /If you, like I do, have clutched cordless tools to drive your wood screws and a need to drill clean, accurate holes in hard woods or metals, the D21008K should be in your shop, too. It isn't a "do-everything" tool, but at this price, even a one-trick pony is a bargain.

Excellent drill for the price! Broke down after 2 uses. Took it to the DeWalt service center, where they found that the reconditioning had not been thorough in checking all potential problems, but they repaired it with no charge when I brought my purchase receipts with me.

I've had a B D cordless rechargeable drill for about 10 years now that I've loved, but it's getting tired. I thought I'd give this one a try and so far it's been awesome. It has great power. The only thing I'm missing on this drill is a lower speed when I'm trying to back off some. It never said that was an option, however, so I never really expected it. It just would be a nice feature to have.
br /This is a truly great drill with lots of power and doesn't seem like it's reconditioned.

Buying reconditioned or refurbished tools is sometimes risky. However, DeWalt has a great reputation with contractors. Given this and the other positive reviews, I ordered one. Mine had no marks or other indications of use or handling. After several months use, I am very pleased with this drill's performance. It has a nice feel in the hand and it has plenty of torque. I find it takes a bit of practice to get the chuck tightened enough to avoid spinning the bit when drilling into metal. With a good twist (past the recommended six clicks), the bit is held tightly and does not spin.

I bought this Reconditioned DeWalt D21008 last year and it still works as good as the day I got it. Aside from the "R" branded on the drill it is hard to tell this recon drill from a new one. The 3/8" ratcheting chuck grips bits well and the 6 amp motor has more than enough power for most drilling jobs. The only improvement would be a 1/2" chuck instead of 3/8", but for the price I can deal with the 3/8" chuck. I would recommend this drill based on both quality and value.

I bought this drill last April, and used it few times, and then it stopped working last week. I was a bit surprise it broke so soon. Took it to the DeWalt service center for repair. After it was examined, I was asked where I bought. I told them it was from Amazon. And then I was told they have found inside parts that were broken and cheap, and not genuine DeWalt parts. They suspected someone just simply rebuilt the drill with cheap parts. Anyway, they fixed the drill for me. So be warned.

I am a weekend handyman and I use to own a rechargeable Porter Cable drill (magnaquench). The battery finally failed to take a charge and I was stuck with an obsolete $200 drill set. I decided to get a corded backup drill while I consider the cordless options (li-on batteries , etc...) This reconditioned drill had a lot of power and was more effective than my old Porter Cable drill (not being fair... corded vs. cordless). This drill does arrive with a little smudge and there is a distinct burnt electrical smell. I was a little concerned with this until I used it to drill out a rusted toilet seat bolt. It was powerful and withstood a long drilling session (2 rusted bolts). By the way... if you are use to the cordless models... it is more noisy and it is quick to grab the drill bits. Be careful with your fingers.

Ordered this refurbished Drill from Amazon a while back and it has yet to let me down. I'm an avid DIY'er and use it frequently. This is the first refurbished power tool I had ever bought and needless to say I had a few reservations. I figured for such a low price, I would take a chance and see how it went. After opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and new the drill looked, you would be hard pressed to tell a difference between it and new one (maybe a scratch or two, but that's it).
br /
br /As expected, the drill worked great right out of the box, and I expect to get many years of use out of it.

I purchased this drill reconditioned at Amazon when it was on sale. It arrived in perfect working order with only minor scuffing. The keyless chuck is great - even my wife commented that it was worth buying just for that. The cord is robust and the plug at the end is good as well. The drill has plenty of power and I've used it for both rapid drilling into soft wood and slow drilling into metal, it never hiccuped. The built in mini-spirit level is a nifty feature although obviously more for general guidance than for assuring a perfectly level hole. Overall this is a great drill for the money and I would buy it again!

This seems like a pretty good drill so far. Note:
br /1. It is unclear from the description, but the refurbished drill does not come with any drill bits.
br /2. Sometimes refurbished items come like new, sometimes they're a little worse for the wear... mine is a little beat up and dirty, but overall works fine.
br /3. This drill is not overly loud like some.
br /4. It is very easy to ramp up the speed - the drill handles this well.

I am usually suspect about reconditioned tools, but this tool looks exactly like the brand new model I bought my brother for Christmas, and the performance is identical. A great drill for the price with a case included.

I have two of these. The first I bought new at home depot for $100. The second off amazon and reconditioned for $30 (amazing deal btw). Anyway for $100 this is a great deal, for $30 there is no excuse for not having one. This is a professional grade drill with plenty of power. I can make the lights in my house dim with this drill. I have used it to drill through metal, wood, plastic, you name it. It even had enough torque for using a 7/8" speedbore bit to go through 6" of wood in under 2 minutes(which requires a lot of torque). Best corded drill I have ever owned or used and I have used just about every brand out there.

I am very pleased with the quality of the drill. I was disappointed when I opened the box, because I had assumed that a kit would also include the bits. A short walk to home depot, and $18 fixed my problem, and it's still a great bargain even when you add the price for the bits.

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my husband ... it arrived last Friday. I tried it out (don't want a gift that doesn't run), and it is better than what he said he wanted. =)
