Efficient for Drilling Small Holes in Concrete

This Makita rotary hammer is very efficient for drilling small holes into hardened concrete. In my profession, I am constantly required to set anchors in concrete. My rotary hammer makes the job easier than it would be with a regular hammer drill. It drills holes much faster than my old hammer drill used to do. And with less noise and vibration.
br /
br /I bought mine here at Amazon. It came with SDS bits and a grinder. I highly recommend this tool to anyone who drills lots of holes in concrete.

Amazing deal

Works just like the Bosch Bulldog I use to have. Lightweight, yet gets the job done quickly. The case is just OK, but the value of this kit cannot be disputed. Highly recommended.

This is the best

If you are now using a pistol grip hammer drill, or thinking of buying one, STOP NOW. Drilling in stone or concrete with this drill is like a hot knife through butter. Plus it's really light in weight. Way faster than any pistol grip drill I have used (including DeWalt, Makita and Bosch.) This is what you want for Tapcons and anchor bolts. Also great for chipping and chiseling - there are many styles of SDS chisels available, and the tool's light weight makes it easy.

A bargain priced workhorse.

The Makita HR2455X2 "Pitbull" Rotary Hammer is a bargain priced workhorse. Don't let the comparatively low price or the free grinder throw you, this is a tight, professional quality tool that can hang with others costing twice as much. I've used Milwaukee and Hilti rotary hammers and hammer drills, and let me tell you, the Makita drills holes with less noise and less vibration than the competition (still, wear ear plugs!). The D-handle is the way to go if you have room to use it. The handles are comfortable, though nothing fancy. The drill is sleek, so you can get next to walls to drill anchor holes. The bit changes take longer to think about than to execute, and a long power cord helps keep extension cords out of the way.
br /The case is the industry-standard compartmentalized plastic, with barely enough room for the tool and cord. The bag Makita offers with its cordless kits is much better; it would be nice if they included a similar option with more of their tools. As it is, I usually just chuck the plastic cases, or find another use for them, and either use a bag or oversized tool box to carry tools and accessories. Anyway, it's normal for tools to come without cases or bags so the user can use whatever best fits their needs, so the Pitbull doesn't lose any points because of the case.
br /I've drilled lots of concrete, sandstone, dense mudstone, limestone and others with this drill, and the HR2455X2 handles them all. It's one of those tools that I look for any excuse to use. It is so smooth and efficient, it's like the holes were already there, and the drill just finds them.
br /The grinder is standard issue Makita- super. The diamond wheel works great for cutting and scoring rock and cutting concrete. Wear a dust mask!

I'm pleased with the drills performance as were many others who reviewed the product. With that said I feel obligated to share other thoughts on the drill.
br /It's a "1 inch" drill but doesn't have a traditional 1" chuck, the drill only accepts SDS bits which are $$$ but it does come with a small set. So if you want to have the SDS capability AND your every day drill you'll need an adaptor chuck. Those run ~ $40 for SDS- 1/2".
br /Secondly the case is substandard, it works for a case but is very low cost and light weight.
br /Lastly in case you're wondering the 4.5" grinder does not come with it's own case.
br /
br /Again, i'm pleased with the price ($177 after promo code) and performance of the dril but I wonder if I might be happier with a traditional 1/2" hammer drill.

Makita does it again!

I just purchased this Makita HR2455 Rotary Hammer through Amazon and couldn't be happier with it. The 7.0amp motor has plenty of power to drill through most concrete and the chipping mode is outstanding if you purchase the proper bits (not included with this package). The carbide tipped bits that come with the hammer are a great bonus and work great for most drilling applications. The rotation only mode isn't very useful, especially when drilling into concrete, but just switch over to the rotary/hammering mode and it goes through concrete with ease. I used the hammer only mode to break up some concrete on a fence post and it worked great. The hammer mode is great for very small concrete demo, but is definately not for larger jobs (this is not a jack hammer). Additionally, I just completed a basement renovation and was able to drill the studs into the concrete foundation and furing strips into cynder block walls with no problems at all. I highly recomend this for the advanced DIYer or small contract jobs.
br /
br /I have not yet used the 4 1/2" grinder, but if it is like other Makita products, I am sure I will not be disappointed.
br /
br /My only complaint is the case that comes with the rotary hammer. The case is cheap and I am a little concerned about protecting the unit while transporting it around and moving it in and out of my truck. This is the only reason I gave this item 4 out of 5 stars. It also would have been nice if the grinder came with a case.
br /
br /All in all, I highly recommend. This thing really is a "Pit Bull".

In the past I used my standard drill with a masonary bit and a ton of patience to get a project done. This time I was going to by a small hammer drill. After reading the reviews on several brands they appeared to have many faults and seem weak. Then I came upon this Makita package deal and went for it. On my project this summer I drilled 22 holes in old concrete to anchor a plate down and couldn't be happier about my purchase. The drill saved me time and the possibility of ruining one of my electric drills from overheating on this project. I haven't use the grinder yet but looks sturdy. I have to mount 4 new window wells to the house this summer and this new drill will be out of the box again. I give this drill 5 stars!

It works like a champ! I don't plan on continous, heavy use but the rotary hammer works much better than I expected. I've drilled several 1/2" anchor holes into a concrete slab and so far it's worked flawlessly. The free side grinder (Amazon.com) was a nice bonus too.

I bought this to drill (30) 1/2 inch holes 5 inches deep in concrete. I started off with a regular drill with a masonary bit just wasnt cutting it so I then went to a bosch masonary hammer drill bit with my ridgid 18V hammer drill, that was better about 10 - 15 minutes a hole, but then I was like let me try this. Wow this thing went through the concrete like I was drilling wood. 10 - 20 seconds a hole. I couldnt believe it. This is worth every penny if you are drilling more than a few holes.

I do a lot of drilling into concrete floors to mount gymnastic equipment for gymnastic schools. Both this drill and grinder make moving and placing equipment a breeze. Hole drilling and bolt cutting are effortless. I highly recommend this product for serious use. Also Amazon's price and shipping of this product is 5 stars.

If you are looking for a rotary hammer, this is the one to buy. Rated at a full 1" capacity, it has power to spare. I have used them all and this one is by far the fastest one on the market. It gets even better, the one I bought from Amazon came with a bonus 4-1/2" heavy duty grinder, 4-1/2" diamond wheel, and a 5 pc SDS bit set. Save your time and buy this one.

Unleashed the Pit Bull today and it even scared me a lil. I was impressed
br /the way it's chiseling prowess devoured the old 1953 check pattern tiles
br /1/2" and 1" size. Before I give this rotary hammer drill the 5 star treatment, I'd like to tell you that I went to town on these tiles by hand
br /with a very heavy roofing hammer and metal chisel and made very little headway at all by hand. So I decided to use black Friday as my excuse to buy it on sale or not, redoing the bathroom for "the wife" was justification enough, right? So I was at the BORG and saw the Makita,
br /I already own a combo drill, and impact driver/flash light kit from them and LOVE them so this was my chance to add to the colect.
br /Suddenly we're my eyes deceiving me? A Free what, Angle Grinder, by Makita as well, FREE?
br /
br /Ok enough of how good a deal this was,---- it ate through the cement that held the tiles in place like nuclear glue. I'm so glad I got this SDS Drill.
br /It was like a Pit-Bull and like a good dog; it was man's best friend. Love it. Oh and did I mention it comes with a free angle grinder, LOL. Buy It. While it lasts.

I bought this kit about two years ago on sale for around $125. I have used the grinder only a few times, but it seems like it's as sturdy and well-built as a Makita should be. I've used the rotary hammer a few dozen times, mainly for setting Tap-Cons, and it runs through poured concrete so fast it's comical. I've also drilled some 5/8" and 3/4" holes through poured concrete and brick/mortar. It's got plenty of power to get the job done with the larger bits, too.
