I own a small home improvement/remodeling company. I've used this for some small demo jobs ie: removing ceramic tile with a 1.5" chisel as well as drilling a variety of holes into masonry/concrete. It's had plenty of power and works great. The Fit/ finish is excellent and the case has plenty of room for all my bits. I highly recommend it!

I was told by some people that I needed a bigger tool for the demo job am doing, but rave reviews for this tool here and on the Fine Homebuilding forums, not to mention the $200 more I'd have to spend on the next-level Hilti, convinced me to try the Bulldog. I bought it here when it was on sale with the bit set, which was great, as those bits are not cheap. It has worked like a dream, and I have worked it hard on old plaster on top of gypsum lath, and cinder block. True, those are not granite, but I ran this tool as full time as I had energy for, 8 hours a day and it never even got really hot. Vibration isn't too bad, either.brThe feature that lets you reposition the axis of the SDS bit is easy and I use it a lot more than I would have thought.

Gotta have tool!

The Bulldog is just that. I have used mine to chip out cracked stone flooring tiles, drill holes in concrete, and clean thinset from concrete slab. It has performed flawlessly. I tried to chip out some steps for a sunken living room. The concrete was too hard and too old. I spent several hours on a Sunday trying to get those steps out with the Bulldog. I only removed about 1/3 of the concrete, and I decided the Bulldog wasn't up to that task. I finally rented a large Hilti demolition hammer. I got the steps out in about 10 minutes.
br /
br /The Bulldog is excellent for small-area tile removal, and drilling small to medium holes in concrete. Even drilling in old concrete is no problem. It bores holes much more quickly into concrete than a traditional drill with hammer capability. I have also used the Bulldog to chip out exposed stem wall, to get a level floor surface for tile installation. This is a do-it-yourselfer's trophy tool.
br /
br /Chipping tiles and concrete produces profuse quantities of concrete, thinset, and tile dust. Keep a shop vac hose close to the bit while chipping, and save your house from the ravages of demolition dust. Also use a shop vac bag that is rated for concrete dust. The regular dust bags help, but they let a lot of dust through to plug up your pleated shop vac filter.
br /
br /Buy the Bulldog. It's one dog you won't mind cleaning up after!

The best small rotary hammer--without question

I've used the big demolition and rotary hammers from Hilti and Bosch as well as a smaller hammer from Hilti. While the Bulldog certainly doesn't have the power of those big monsters, it can be used for hours on end without operator fatigue--or tool failure. This tool drills through concrete very quickly and chews through the solid fieldstone our home walls are made of. It's light enough to use while curled up in the back of a small fireplace removing a chimney damper, and powerful enough to break out some 5000 psi concrete during a threshhold demolition. I have found this tool to be ruggedly built and have not had any service issues in five plus years of ownership. By the way, this Bosch is also my 2-year old son's favorite tool ever since that threshhold demolition--he calls it the "wowee mammer" and constantly pleads to use it.

I think of the times I've spent over the years leaning with all my might on a regular drill trying to punch holes in masonry. Little did I know, but using a regular drill on masonry is akin to pushing a nail into wood rather than hitting it.
br /
br /I started to catch on when I opted for the hammer drill version of my recent cordless drill purchase. Pleased with the performance of that machine, I decided to move up to this Bosch corded rotary hammer for some bigger holes I needed. I have not been disappointed. In fact, the first time I used this unit, I was dumbfounded by the ease in which it tore 1/2" holes into some old concrete. With this unit, I'd have to rate boring in concrete as at least as easy as boring in wood, and much easier than boring in steel.
br /
br /Yes, it's a lot of money for someone like me who will use it only occasionally. I think what won me over was the versatility of this machine, with the light chipping function as well as the capability to be a high torque regular 1/2" vsr drill. (With the purchase of the adapter - about forty bucks).
br /
br /At least now I'll be looking for reasons to drill into concrete rather than looking for reasons to avoid it!

Whether your drilling into concrete 3 days old or 70 years old, there is nothing better. I had remodeled a 70 year old building and had to drill for anchor bolts into the concrete. Well we all know how hard concrete gets over time and my old Porter Cable only lasted a few 7/8" holes. I had heard about the Bosch and ran out to get one right away. 25 holes later, the beast was barely warming up. I must say the [money] I payed for the "life saver" was well worth it. Buy this tool!

This is a work horse. I've used this drill to anchor the bearing walls of a duplex with 1/2" x 7" wedge bolts. Didn't break a sweat even after installing 50+ bolts.

The company I work for recently had a $1000 Hilti hammer drill stolen. I needed to drill about 120 3/4" holes through a foot of concrete. A lot of the work was off of a ladder. I tried the Bulldog out just for kicks thinking it would burn up in no time. I went through two bits but the Bulldog is still alive and kicking. The drill is five years old and we had always used it in smaller applications before. Amazing piece of equipment for the money.

Working for a disaster restoration company in so. cal. doing piece work construction, I need tools that do the job quickly and reliably without taking up half the bed space in the back of my truck. I am required to be a jack of all trades so to speak. This rotary hammer has never let me down! Just a word of caution- If you are planning to demo. the old garage or build a modern marvel, buy a bigger hammer. Remember- don't bring a knife to a gun fight! Use your better judgement and you'll be fine. As for the other 90% of us this tool will do just fine!

If you're like me and don't do do enough work to justify a top notch hammer drill (i.e., Hilti brand), this drill is an excellent choice. For what I have paid in rental fees I could have bought this unit several times over, so I finally did!
br /
br /Build quality is first class as I have come to expect from the many other Bosch power tools I own. It is perhaps unfair to only give this tool 4 stars since I am comparing it to a Hilti that costs much more, but, it does lack a little power when it comes to the hammer mode. Still I would buy it again.

I'm an electrical contractor and I use this tool primarily to break stucco when changing electrical panels. It's a great light duty tool. I had the DeWalt prior but it broke and they couldn't get parts to repair it, so I went with the Bosch. It's a much better tool.

5+ stars for here too!

The bulldog gets it done. I can't say enough about this tool. Its done everything I've asked it to do. From hammering through a 8 in slab, to drilling through 8 in block.
br / Of course, I don't use it everyday like a contractor, but I'de imagine for that kind of use, I'de buy one of the bigger bosch hammers for everyday punishment. The bits are somewhat pricey, but for good reason, they last! You will only probably need to buy them once.
br /For occasional to medium use, this is a winner!

Bosch 11224VSR 7/8" SDS Rotary Hammer This drill made drilling 22, 3/4"X21/2" holes in a concrete slab like I was drilling in wood. The vibration was nothing compared to my Milwaukee. This one is a keeper.

I've been very impressed with this tool is performed flawlessly in all respects. It is nice to use a quality piece of machinery that dependably performs day after day. I've mostly use this tool for drilling into block with a 3/16" bitand it absolutely choose straight into the block like I was drilling into foam. the case is nice and the ergonomics of the tool also were very helpful.

Been using for about 2 years now. AWESOME!!!!!Love the chipping feature. I used it to open crack between house and concrete patio to insert new expansion joint. Also used wood chisels on hammer only setting(chipping) to cut out exposed tree roots!!!!!Bulldog is strong-chip into wood w/wood chisels carefully as they can get stuck(chip at a angle to make a "V" cutting not straight up and down). Drilling in concrete is effortless!!!!!Beats a hammer drill anyday!!!!!Hammer drills are good for brick and soft concrete, for hard concrete go for a rotary-preferably a "BULLDOG"!!!! UpDATE uded it to drive a grounding rod 6ft into the ground w/ the grounding rod chucked into the optional 1/2 chuck!!!!!!!!!!! Worked great. It took about 3 miutes to sink it 6 ft.

I am extremely pleased with the tools performance. The price may seem a little high but it's worth every penny. It's ideal for overhead and down-drilling applications, the D-handle design on this rotary hammer gives you extra control. This Bosch rotary hammer has proven itself to be an asset, it's well used from every day use, runs great, has minimum vibration, yet delivers maximum impact force!! I would recommend it for individuals who work at job site areas where power is either difficult to obtain or unavailable.

Sure not my experience with this unit....

Whoa! I'm normally a Bosch tool fan - gots lots of 'em. This brand new one, however, decided to give me three 3/8" x 4" pilot holes in cured concrete, then two 5/8" holes, smoked the motor, and quit on me. All the appropriate precautions (water-cooled bit, moderate pressure, etc.) could not keep this Humpty-Dumpty together. Really disappointing. I pinged Bosch to see what they are willing to do about it since it's over one year old and out of warranty. Will it be the end of my love affair with Bosch tools???

I am not a contractor, but I always seem to have some type of project going on that requires a large variety of tools. In the past whenever I needed to drill thru concrete I would use a heavy duty drill and have to sharpen the bits quite often. Then I got a 18 Volt Dewalt Drill w/ hammer function and this worked great, however if the hole was very big or there were several holes to drill, this would require extra batteries and the need to sharpen the bits often, but it always got the job done. Then one day a neighbor let me borrow his Bosch SDS Rotary Hammer and I drilled 10 holes in same time it used to take me to drill one. The next day I purchased my own and have used it several times. What a Great Tool to add to my collection.

Great tool! I've used mine for drilling in concrete and wood - and it works superbly for that - but this weekend I used it to chip out some old floor tile and thinset. With a 1 1/2 inch chipping bit the old tile didn't stand a chance, and for taking out the thinset, it was particularly awsome. Key words here are 1) Gets the job done, 2) One tough tool, and 3) Very little vibration.p1) After a short learning curve, (Attack tile from the corners and where two tiles meet. Attack thinset at 90 degrees to the trowel grooves.) the tile and thinset basically flew off of there.p2) Tough tool. I ran the tool for about two hours straight before lunch and another two hours straight after lunch with only short breaks to clear debris. It never even whimpered, and was going as strong at the end as when I started. I noticed that it got a little warm, (So what did you expect?) and I kept checking it, but it never overheated. The Bulldog lives up to its name for toughness.p3) Very little vibration. Of course there is some. It is a hammer-chipper after all. However, for the record, the vibration is minimal - far less than my string trimmer, for example. After four hours working this thing, my hands and arms were never "numb." I was impressed. You can chip all day and not get beat up! The Bulldog is also a comfortable dog.pThe ability to adjust the angle of the bit is a very positive feature. You can adjust it to what ever angle that is most effective or comfortable. The Bulldog is fairly light weight too. It won't wear you out just carrying it around, but it still packs a wallop.pAs I mentioned, drilling with or without the hammer feature is awsome. You can set if for drill only, drill and hammer, or hammer only. This is one 5 star tool!pFurthermore, the Bulldog is very moderately priced. I learned long ago that cheap tools are no bargain - but good tools at a bargain price are! This is a good tool, and it doesn't cost that much either. By the way, I had another brand rotary hammer - about the same size - that comes dressed in yellow - sold it. This Bosch is leagues ahead of that other one.pCan it do everything - maybe not, but just about everything. I do have one of those big elephant-like rotary hammers for the REALLY BIG jobs, but 9 times out of 10, I reach for the Bosch Bulldog - and it gets the job done. pBy the way - When using this tool or any other rotary hammer, wear safety glasses, a GOOD dust mask, ear muffs, and gloves. Don't skimp on any of those! I know there are some macho types out there that think that stuff is for wimps. Well listen, Bubba - You ain't bullet proof. The "wimps" will be out there making money while you are in the emergency room or getting fitted for hearing aids. Put on the safety gear! It's extremely important!pGood tool - quality tool. I like it. and I think you will too.p 06/2004 - Quick edit - I like this tool so much that when the opportunity came along to acquire a used one, I bought it and now have two. Why? Just because it is a great tool, and I can have one in the truck and a back-up at home. JM

Bought this at the local Big Orange Retail Giant, cuz I needed it tonight. It chews up 35 yr old stucco very nicely, and much faster than a bricklayers hammer. Putting in new windows and eventually going to cut a weep screed opening across a 75 ft expanse so I wanted a tool that was fast enough and yet not too heavy for use on a ladder.

I bought this tool to remove tile in my shower. For a couple hours, it worked fantastic on the hammer function. But then it just stopped hammering. The chisel would vibrate mildly, but not enough to do any good. After moving it around at different angles and letting it run, it would occasionally start hammering again, but not for long, and it's back in the mild vibration mode. It's totally useless for the hammer function now (which was what I bought it for), and I've gotten only about two hours worth of use out of it. I'll return it tomorrow, and I'll probably upgrade to the next model up in hopes that it lasts a bit longer.

I purchased over $2,500.00 in tools for my Construction Co. a couple of months ago and of all the tools I purchased this one disappointed most. i guess i should have known that a drill with a 6.9 amp motor should have dedicated use, not try to be a "jack of all trades". The latter half of the saying applied to this drill--- Master of None! Too little power and the drill can't handle any kind of low RPM high friction/ torque work. It starts to smoke. I love Bosch and MOST of their products, this one is trying to wear too many hats for me--- 3 Stars.
