After using a Dewalt 18V XRP drill kit for a few projects, I was unsatisfied with the overall quality and performance. So I began my search for another quality cordless drill and ended up with this Bosch. I'm completely satisfied with the quality - the shell is very rugged, the chuck is 1st class, adjustable clutch, tons of torque (!), and battery is very securely attached (a problem with the Dewalt). pThis is a first rate drill. I'm completely satisfied and would purchase it again.

This appears to be a nice improvement over my 14.4 DeWallt. It's
much stronger in the tourque department.I like the idea of the
overload protection and the attention to detail[including battery caps].I bought two in a row of my previous gun and over a five year period had to replace two chargers and multiple
batteries[with no way near the 500-1000 charges most manufacters
claim].I'm hoping Bosch's reputation shines here

It's Almost two years later and my oppion of this gun has only improved. I would reccommend this product to anyone. It's taken some serious hits and driven tools well outside it's listed capabilities (whole saws and mud mixers)the mixers on a limited basis. All were taken in stride!

Quite a few years later.recentley started using gun #2.#1 still lives at home as it lost a little of it's tourque.Still love the tool and would buy another if they're still around in another 5 or 6 years.Haven't tried the blue core batteries yet.As I'm still using the ones that came with the gun. If they're an improvement, that would be truely awesome. This tool lives ip to my expectations of $200.00 screw gun.Years of trouble free use with no yearly maintainence. I just replaced the original charger. Oh by the way I didn't realize I poured water into it before it was plugged in.Who know how long it would have lasted otherwise.

Best cordless drill/driver I've seen

I've been using two of these (one for screwing, the other for drilling) for a few months, and I think they're about as close as you can get to the most perfect drill/driver. The batteries last almost a full workday with normal use, they have plenty of power but not plenty of weight, and best of all they have a perfect balance and feel. I don't see the point in getting an 18-volt drill when these little guys do everything a contractor could need.

Awesome Drill!!!

I considered the Dewalt comparable drill, but it was a little more expensive. However I'am glad I bought the Bosch, very rugged and durable, nice torque and power, the case is very well laid out with a little case for extra bits, nice metal buckles and oh yea, caps for the battery packs!!If you are considering any other drill look no further buy the Bosch. One downside, the drill is a little heavy, but that just adds to its ruggedness....Happy drilling!!

I really like the power of the new drill, however it is a little heavier than my compact Bosch.

Long lasting batteries. Great trigger control. Nice clutch with racheting feature. Overall a very solid dependable tool. A great bargain and head and tails above the comparable DeWalt. I would only buy this tool or a Milwaukee.

Upgraded from a Black and Decker 18 volt. I have been using it around the house for DIY projects for the past 4 months. Drill did get hot and started to smell as though the motor was burning when trying to drive some 4 in. lag screws. I gave it rest and was able to finish. No problems since then. Good overall power and speed, quick battery recharges. I would recommend the drill to others looking for a cordless with decent torque.

The drill being reviewed is for 14.4v bosch brute tough with standard ni-cad batteries, NOT BLUECORE.
br /Drilled through 6x6 treated with 1/2" and 1/4" long bits.
br /Durable.
br /Nice case.
br /One battery died just after the 18 month warranty period, other is still working fine. Replacements are $50+.
br /Trigger failed at the same time. Bosch Provantage warranty had it repaired for free within 5 days.

I find this drill motor to be very good. It has served me well.

Tough, but lousy battery life.

I love Bosch tools and highly recommend their table saw, saber saw and routers. It was because of their durability and precision that I bought the Bosch 14.4 when my 12 volt Porter Cable finally conked out. While the Bosch performed admirably under very heavy loads, its battery life was very disappointing. Under heavy use of drilling and driving screws, I'd get an hour or so before having to switch batteries. My buddy with the Panasonic runs all day without switching a battery (even after dropping it off a four story roof - twice). The toughness and convenient carrying case are great aspects of the Bosch, it never smoked or conked out, but I recommend the Panasonic or Porter Cable as better tools.

A real Pleasure!!!!

All I have to say is that this drill is simply awesome!! I've used many other drills before, but this one takes the cake! you can feel the durability by just holding it. The fun really starts when you use it...tons of torque for any job! you can't go wrong, good luck!

I am a carpenter and I do mostly finish work, I bought this drill about six months ago and it had a strange smell blowing out from the motor when I used it, I thought maybe it was dust in the motor from when it was assembled because nothing seemed to be wrong with it,it worked great nice torque well balanced the only thing I didn't like about it was it has terrible battery life but I did like the drill up until it just stopped working six months later with minimal use and I really never worked it hard when I did use it, I know its under warranty and I can get it fixed, its just inconvenient and this is the second bosch tool that was less than 6 months old that has had problems, I recently bought a bosch rotory tool and the motor smoked the first time I plugged it in, sent it back no problem but again inconvenient, I know bosch makes great tools but either I'm the most unlucky guy on the planet getting two lemons in a row or there's a problem with bosch quality control, on the good side amazon has taken care of any problems with products that don't work out and there customer service is outstanding , I would only buy here at amazon using the internet.that was in 2004 when they had the best customer service on the planet they are now outsourcing so there customer service is useless snotty and arogent so if you buy here make sure you get everthing perfect and hope for the best

I replaced my old drill/driver (a 9 volt BD that burned up) with this drill. Man alive! This thing has a lot of power. It is also very solidly built and is a sturdy tool. This drill has tackled several jobs that my old drill and several different borrowed drills couldn't handle. I am very pleased with this product and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a new drill/driver!
